[Superman] Chapter 97: Cosmic Storm Incarnation "Phoenix" (Long Chapter)
🕑 Added 2024-03-03 18:17:46 +0000 UTCThe next day, inside a space station located in space.
"Warning, warning..."
The quiet interior of the space station suddenly filled with urgent artificial intelligence alarms.
"What's happening?"
The sudden alarm made everyone a bit flustered.
After all, just a few days ago, they had experienced a crisis that could have destroyed Earth.
Reed was the first to arrive at the massive control room to assess the situation.
"It's okay, it's just that the cosmic storm's arrival time has been slightly advanced compared to the estimate..."
Seeing that the alarm was triggered due to the cosmic storm's early arrival, Reed couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
He then notified all space station personnel of this latest development.
"After detection, the cosmic storm is accelerating continuously. There is less than an hour left before it reaches Earth. Everyone, please prepare everything as quickly as possible and make sure to take protective measures..."
This time, with more advanced detection equipment, Reed obviously didn't encounter the same mishap as in the movies.
It wasn't until the cosmic storm approached the space station, with only a few minutes left, that they detected it.
"Understood, Dr. Richards."
Soon, all personnel involved in this project began to work busily under Reed's command.
"Mr. Superman, the cosmic storm is accelerating, and there's less than an hour left until it reaches Earth..."
Later, through the contact information left by Peter, Reed also didn't forget to inform him of this latest news.
"Reed, I heard the cosmic storm's arrival time has been advanced?"
Just as Reed finished relaying the message to Peter, a graceful blonde woman, and a burly man approached him, inquiring.
"Susan, Ben, you're here."
"Yes, the cosmic storm's arrival time has been advanced, so you must carefully inspect all facilities before its arrival. I don't want any accidents to happen in front of Mr. Superman..."
Having experienced the last incident, Reed was afraid of any mishaps occurring with the project he was responsible for in front of Superman.
So, he placed great emphasis on whether the equipment could operate normally.
"Reed, don't worry. These devices and the entire plan have been carefully prepared for a long time and there won't be any accidents."
As a good friend, Ben, seeing Reed's nervousness, couldn't help but comfort him.
"No, Ben, I'm still not reassured. Come, let's go check the shield system again. This part must not have any problems; otherwise, everyone on the space station will be in danger..."
Reed still seemed worried and directly left with Ben, completely unaware of the anger in the woman's eyes as she watched him.
...
Buzz...
Peter, who was in class, suddenly heard the custom communicator in his pocket ringing.
"Has the cosmic storm's arrival time been advanced?"
Seeing the message from Reed, Peter's expression remained unchanged.
Although the time had been advanced, there was still nearly an hour left, which was completely sufficient for him.
"Excuse me, teacher, it seems there has been a significant development in my internship project that requires my assistance, so..."
In the quiet classroom, Peter suddenly stood up and asked the teacher for permission.
"You may go, Mr. Parker. Congratulations, I hope after you graduate, you will be able to enroll in an ideal university."
Peter was originally a top student, and now he has entered the most famous company in the world for an internship.
It could be said that as long as nothing unexpected happens, after he graduates, he can freely choose from world-renowned universities.
"Thank you, teacher..."
Amidst the envy of all his classmates, Peter leisurely walked out of the classroom.
"Teacher, there have been some developments in my internship project as well..."
Watching Peter's departing figure, Gwen suddenly stood up and spoke.
"Gwen, I hope you're not lying to me..."
The teacher looked at Gwen strangely but ultimately didn't call her out.
"Darn it, he left so quickly?"
However, as Gwen walked out of the classroom and hurriedly followed out of school, she still didn't see Peter's departing figure.
"Never mind, I'll check if there are any accidents in the city."
Feeling a bit helpless, but since she had already lied, she couldn't go back to the classroom. Besides, after the fusion of the two universes last time, the whole of New York was a bit more chaotic than before.
Moreover, the criminals appearing now were no longer ordinary people but superpowered individuals with special abilities. This made the police investigation process no longer as easy as before, containing greater risks.
And the role of Spider-Woman was completely highlighted.
Thinking of this, Gwen no longer hesitated. She walked into a secluded street and revealed the tight-fitting suit under her coat.
As the Spider-Woman, swinging on webs, she moved between the tall buildings of the city.
...
On the other hand, Peter, who had just left the classroom, almost instantly arrived at the space station in space.
Entering the door specially reserved for himself, Peter stepped into the space station.
"Mr. Superman, you're here!"
"Hello, Mr. Superman."
The staff who were busy checking equipment and working hurriedly greeted Peter with excitement upon seeing him.
After all, meeting Superman was even more exciting than meeting a world-famous superstar.
"Where's Reed?"
Nodding coolly to the people greeting him, Peter directly entered the control room but didn't see Reed. Instead, he saw a familiar blonde woman.
"Mr. Superman, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Susan Storm, Reed's college classmate."
Meeting Peter for the first time, Susan was also full of excitement.
The reason she left her previous company and came to Stellar Technologies was not only because of Reed but also because of Superman.
"Hello, Ms. Storm."
"No need to be formal, Mr. Superman. Just call me Susan."
"Reed went to check the equipment and shield system. He values this project very much and is afraid of any accidents occurring... Do you want me to inform him to come back and see you?"
Susan smiled as she spoke.
"Alright, thank you for your hard work. But don't inform him yet. I'll wait for him here."
Peter nodded and then walked to the nearby sofa, waiting for Reed to return after checking the equipment.
In the midst of countless researchers occasionally stealing glances, Peter waited calmly for nearly half an hour.
It wasn't until less than twenty minutes before the cosmic storm arrived that Reed finally returned to the control room with Ben.
"Superman, when did you arrive? Why wasn't I notified?"
As Reed just returned to the control room, he almost instantly spotted the familiar figure and hurried over.
"I instructed them not to inform you. So, everything's still normal?"
"Yeah, I just personally checked everything, and it's all fine. I guarantee there won't be any accidents when you capture the cosmic storm."
After a thorough check, Reed appeared quite confident.
"Alright, then let's wait and see."
Peter's gaze slowly turned towards space, as if he could see the distant cosmic storm filled with powerful unknown energy.
...
"What exactly is this cosmic storm?"
In fact, until this moment, Peter was still very curious about the nature of this cosmic storm.
After all, ordinary cosmic storms wouldn't grant ordinary people special abilities.
Yet, this particular cosmic storm could grant various different abilities to ordinary people.
It could even produce mutants in large quantities...
The Marvel Universe had many mysterious energies, among which the Phoenix Force, the Chaos Magic, and the Fairy Magic were the most famous and powerful.
The most famous host of the Phoenix Force was the mutant Jean Grey.
When awakened by the Phoenix Force, she could almost destroy the entire Earth.
The host of Chaos Magic was Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch.
Awakened by Chaos Magic, Wanda possessed incredible power. Even in the weakened portrayals in movies and TV shows, she could easily alter reality.
After studying the Darkhold, she could traverse the multiverse and even single-handedly destroy the entire Illuminati of Universe 838.
Even Captain Marvel couldn't defeat her.
In the comics, their performances were even more powerful.
"In any case, we'll soon witness the true form of this cosmic energy."
As time passed by, amidst everyone's anticipation and nervousness, the cosmic storm was rapidly approaching Earth.
...
"Warning, one minute until the cosmic storm arrives. Please prepare all personnel."
"Warning..."
Soon, amidst the tense waiting, time finally reached the last minute before the cosmic storm arrived.
"All personnel, please return to your positions immediately and prepare for the cosmic storm's arrival."
At this moment, following Reed's command, everyone came to their positions and began nervously awaiting.
"Superman, are you..."
After everything was ready, Reed looked towards Peter.
"Don't worry, I've been prepared for a while. Well then, I'll go out first."
At this moment, although Peter's face was calm, he was still somewhat impatient internally.
Without hesitation, Peter walked out of the space station's airlock and stood in the harsh environment of space, where survival was impossible for any human.
"Every time I see Superman's immense power, I feel incredulous."
Susan approached Reed, her face filled with admiration as she looked at the towering figure outside the space station.
"Of course, that's Superman, the hero who just saved our universe."
Reed, equally filled with admiration, knew that without Superman, he wouldn't be able to fulfill his dreams and the entire universe might be destroyed along with him.
"Warning, the cosmic storm is approaching, 30 seconds, 29, 28..."
"But now is not the time to admire Superman. It's time for us to get to work."
At this moment, through the space station, everyone could see a distant cosmic storm emitting a golden glow, swiftly approaching them.
"Activate the shields at full power."
"Understood, shields fully activated..."
With Reed's command, the entire space station was enveloped in a visible protective shield, like a foam covering.
The shield at this moment was no longer the basic version provided by Wakanda. After modifications by Reed and several geniuses, the shield could withstand even nuclear bomb blasts when fully activated.
So, there was no problem in resisting the radiation of the cosmic storm.
"Reed, are you sure Superman is alright..."
With the space station shielded, there was no need to worry. But Peter was outside the shield's range at this moment.
Seeing Peter about to be completely exposed to the cosmic storm's assault, Susan couldn't help but feel worried.
"Don't worry, he's Superman, the savior of the universe!"
At this moment, Reed wasn't worried at all about Peter's safety.
"Finally, it's here!"
At this moment, Peter, outside the protective shield, was also completely unconcerned about being exposed to the cosmic storm.
After all, he could now absorb energy from the sun's core.
As he looked at the visible golden cosmic storm ahead, his eyes revealed a hint of anticipation.
"8, 7, 6... All personnel, prepare for impact. The cosmic storm has arrived..."
As the artificial intelligence counted down, the cosmic storm, emitting a golden glow as if containing an entire starry sky within it, suddenly descended, engulfing Peter's body in an instant.
"Are we just going to watch?"
Seeing Peter being engulfed by the cosmic storm, many people's eyes were filled with concern.
"Trust Superman!"
Although Reed also had a hint of worry, he believed more in Superman's strength.
"All personnel, attention. Activate the reception device and be ready to receive the captured cosmic storm..."
At this moment, Reed and the others, apart from observing the cosmic storm, were more focused on preparing to receive the cosmic storm successfully captured by Peter.
This process also couldn't afford any accidents, as there was still a significant risk of exposing everyone in the entire space station to the cosmic storm.
...
Meanwhile, Peter, engulfed by the cosmic storm.
At this moment, he didn't rush to take action and directly capture the cosmic storm.
Instead, he carefully sensed the special energy contained within this cosmic storm.
Within the cosmic storm, incredibly powerful cosmic rays and radiation, as well as a very unique energy, were constantly invading Peter's body.
However, the invading force was ultimately weaker than Peter's steel body and couldn't truly penetrate his body.
"It seems I need to slowly study the nature of this cosmic storm."
Peter, finding no immediate gains, no longer hesitated.
He directly released his internal special power.
Using his powerful biological stance, he instantly transformed into an incredibly vast, almost visible giant web, directly enveloping this special cosmic storm completely.
Squeak!
Suddenly, within the enveloped cosmic storm, it seemed to sense some danger and suddenly emitted a strange and eerie cry, as if it possessed some strange consciousness.
It began to struggle violently.
"Hmm? Could it be that there's still some special consciousness within this cosmic storm?"
The intense resistance of the cosmic storm surprised Peter.
But his face was filled with delight.
If there truly was some special consciousness within it, then this couldn't possibly be just a simple cosmic storm.
For Peter, this was undoubtedly a much greater discovery.
The next moment, Peter didn't hesitate to increase the output of his biological stance and, at the same time, extended his right hand, slowly closing his palm.
Instantly, the biological force field that had transformed into a giant web shocked everyone as it turned into a gigantic palm in Peter's hand.
And with the movement of Peter's right hand, he tightly gripped the cosmic storm in the palm of his hand.
Clang!
Suddenly, under the envelopment of the biological stance turned into a large hand, the golden cosmic storm actually began to gradually twist and condense into the shape of a bird.
And it instantly erupted into a sharp scream, beginning to struggle even more violently.
However, no matter how it struggled, it was ultimately like a bird trapped in a cage, unable to escape.
"This... is this the Phoenix?"
But at this moment, Peter looked at the cosmic storm, held in his hand and transformed into a bird, resembling a Phoenix in shape, with a strong expression of surprise and joy in his eyes.
