[Superman] Chapter 163: Invitation to the Council Members
🕑 Added 2024-06-30 05:17:51 +0000 UTC"In the multiverse, versions of yourself from future timelines?"
Peter listened to Reed's words, unable to help but stare at him with curiosity shining in his eyes.
"Yes, exactly, versions of myself from other universes!"
Facing Peter's puzzled gaze, Reed did not flinch, meeting his eyes squarely and speaking earnestly.
"Why did you make such a decision? Why invite versions of yourself from other universes instead of inviting others who are equally intelligent from across different universes?"
Peter asked curiously. After all, the conventional idea behind establishing the Multiversal Technology Council was to share advanced technologies from various universes, triggering a rapid technological boom.
While in most other universes, Reed was often known as a genius scientist himself, inviting scientists specializing in different technological fields would undoubtedly accelerate overall technological development.
"Mr. Superman, I understand that proposing the Multiversal Technology Council itself is already quite audacious."
"Because it involves sharing the most advanced technologies known in each universe, a sudden surge in technology could potentially cause significant chaos and turmoil in any given universe."
"Therefore, the scientists we invite to the council must ensure they possess sufficient moral integrity, refraining from exploiting advanced technology to endanger the universe..."
"As for others, it's difficult for us to ascertain their inner goodness or whether they harbor ambitions to use advanced technology to conquer worlds and even universes."
"No one understands me better than myself!"
"Even if they come from other universes and different timelines!"
Reed explained solemnly, voicing his concerns.
Although his explanation seemed somewhat loose, Peter found himself agreeing.
"I see..."
Thus, upon hearing Reed's explanation, Peter began to ponder once more.
Of course, his current contemplation did not concern Reed's considerations regarding whom to invite.
Instead, he deliberated over whether or not to agree to Reed's proposal to initiate a special council connecting countless multiverses.
"While opening the council could yield substantial benefits, it also entails facing more unknown threats..."
At this moment, Peter couldn't help but recall a notable villain from the Marvel Universe — Kang the Conqueror!
Originally a genius scientist from the 31st century who accidentally obtained a time-traveling machine, Kang utilized it to traverse various timelines, acquiring numerous advanced technologies.
He had even united countless versions of himself across universes to establish the Multiversal Council known as the "Council of Kangs."
What particularly intrigued Peter was that Kang the Conqueror was actually a descendant of the present Reed from the future.
...
Reed looked at Peter, lost in thought, and didn't rush him.
He knew his idea was too bold, possibly triggering greater threats. But now, he could only entrust his audacious idea and proposal to Peter for a decision.
Of course, Reed wasn't aware whether his descendants would follow his will and, like him, establish a renowned Council of Kangs, nearly causing the complete collapse of timelines across the multiverse.
"I must say, your proposal is indeed daring..."
After pondering for a long while, Peter's expression finally relaxed, indicating he had made a decision.
Luckily, Reed hadn't kept this special council a secret from him and had not independently established it. Otherwise, Peter would have erased this council, which could potentially destroy the multiverse.
But now, he had a different answer in mind.
"So, Mr. Superman, do you... agree?"
Seeing Peter's relaxed expression and the subtle smile, Reed speculated incredulously.
"In fact, I see no reason to refuse. Perhaps, at this very moment, there are others across infinite universes who have already established a council connecting the multiverse, sharing your vision..."
Time isn't a fixed linear process. Perhaps, at this moment, the future Kang the Conqueror has already established his so-called Council of Kangs, ready to unify timelines across the multiverse with his own power.
Thus, Peter did not refuse Reed's proposal.
Moreover, under his oversight, the Multiversal Council would bring more benefits than crises.
"Fantastic, Mr. Superman! I'll begin setting up everything for the Multiversal Council..."
Peter's trust excited Reed immensely.
He couldn't wait to meet versions of himself from other universes and learn about their life experiences.
"No need to rush. Let's first devise a comprehensive plan before implementation."
"Of course, utmost secrecy is crucial. No one besides us should know about this plan, not even the company or the newly established SWORD."
After all, this council links infinite multiverses. The fewer who know, the safer it will be.
"Rest assured, Mr. Superman. I'll craft a flawless plan!"
Far from feeling dismayed, Reed was now filled with excitement.
Thanks to Peter's trust, he had once again realized his incredibly audacious idea.
...
Next, for some time, while Reed continued his research on super speed without pause.
He also didn't forget to devise and continuously refine detailed plans for the Multiversal Council.
Just as he assured Peter, he devoted tremendous effort and experience to this plan, attempting to make it as perfect as possible.
Finally, after nearly a month had passed, Peter received Reed's notification and hurried back to the laboratory on the space station.
"Mr. Superman, I have thoroughly perfected the plan not long ago!"
Upon meeting, Reed could hardly contain his excitement and intense anticipation as he addressed Peter.
"In that case, let's begin!"
Although Peter wasn't as visibly excited as Reed, there was still a sense of anticipation within him about what surprises the upcoming establishment of the Multiversal Scientific Research Council might bring.
"Very well, sir. This will definitely not disappoint you..."
Reed suppressed his strong excitement and eagerly led Peter into a specially prepared room.
In the center of this room, resembling a conference room, was a hexagonal table.
The table itself was silver-white, undoubtedly crafted from vibranium.
Its center was hollowed out, with a large space capable of accommodating over a dozen people standing and delivering speeches.
"This conference table incorporates all of our company's most advanced technologies: virtual projections, artificial intelligence, and more..."
Though it appeared to be a simple conference table, it represented the pinnacle of technological achievement on Earth.
"Looks good..."
Peter scanned the relatively small room with a calm expression. Though the setup was minimalist, it was far from plain.
Moreover, he could sense the room's robustness and cohesive design, equipped with security systems as advanced as those in the Multiversal Laboratory, if not more powerful.
"Alright, let's proceed directly with our plan!"
Peter didn't linger on these insignificant details, simply surveyed the area briefly, then turned to Reed beside him.
"Very well, sir!"
Reed didn't hesitate either, immediately sitting down with Peter at one end of the hexagonal conference table.
Then he swept his hand across the silver tabletop.
Instantly, a virtual screen appeared before them.
After Reed went through an immensely elaborate security verification process, the final authorization request appeared in front of Peter.
"Sir, please authorize and consent to immediately begin establishing the Multiversal Council!"
The most crucial point in the perfected plan was that whether inviting new council members or initiating the Multiversal Council itself, it required Peter's personal presence and authorization to proceed normally.
Otherwise, the meeting couldn't be initiated, nor could contact be made with council members from other universes.
Unless Peter had issued a special authorization beforehand.
In any case, Peter held the highest authority over the entire council.
He even had the authority to destroy everything in this room, effectively ending this special council connecting the multiverse.
...
"Alright, I authorize Reed Richards to open the multiverse gateway and invite his counterparts from other universes..."
"Immediately establish the new Multiversal Council!"
Peter didn't hesitate, entrusting Reed with full leadership of the meeting.
"Sir, I will not disappoint your trust!"
With Peter's authorization successfully granted, the screen instantly changed.
The entire room suddenly turned pitch black.
Before them, stars emitting a faint red glow suddenly appeared, like celestial bodies...
At that moment, they felt as if they were immersed in a brilliant starry sky.
Of course, the shimmering lights around them were not cosmic dust; each one represented a universe.
"Sir, let me introduce you to the council members we have invited..."
During this past month, Reed had not only perfected the Multiversal Council's plan but also enhanced the newly completed Multiverse Shuttle.
He had installed a more powerful independent energy system.
Now, the Multiverse Shuttle was linked to the small teleportation device he had developed, capable of simultaneously opening temporal channels to several universes within the conference room.
This process was much simpler than the cumbersome method before, which could only open a single universe's coordinates portal.
Moreover, through modifications to the Multiverse Shuttle, the coordinates of the portals it created were now more precise, unlike before when they could only be established at unknown locations on entire planets.
However, Reed didn't need to explain these details to Peter in depth.
Countless universes appeared before them via virtual projection.
Numerous faint red hexahedrons representing each universe floated before them, resembling a starry spectacle that was mesmerizing.
Suddenly, Reed gently waved his right hand.
In the next moment, the entire panorama of the multiverse began to rapidly rotate and zoom in.
In the blink of an eye, one of the multiverses stopped in front of them and began to rapidly expand!
Their gaze, along with the rapidly expanding universe, arrived at a blue Earth.
Unlike their expectations, the magnification process didn't stop there on this particular planet.
Instead, it continued through the atmosphere, over clouds, and finally settled above a city—a city that felt familiar yet strangely different to both of them.
"Is this another universe's New York?"
Due to its resemblance to their own New York, they felt a sense of familiarity.
However, what felt unfamiliar was that this New York was entirely different from their impressions of it.
The entire city seemed to have undergone a complete transformation.
Among towering skyscrapers, special roads snaked through the air, akin to roller coasters.
Like a silver serpent, special trains raced along these roads, zooming through the entire city in the blink of an eye.
In the sky, countless small flying vehicles resembling cars were orderly arranged, cruising through the void.
The entire city appeared as a futuristic metropolis, showcasing the remarkable advancement of technology in this world.
"Sir, I believe the scene before you will be quite surprising."
"And this is the universe where our first invited member resides..."
Seeing a hint of curiosity on Peter's face, Reed didn't delay further and began to introduce.
"This universe is designated as Universe 86, and among the members we feel are suitable for invitation, it is the closest to us!"
"As you can see, sir, the timeline of this universe is set thirty years ahead in the future."
"This universe enjoys harmony and has not suffered from the frequent destruction crises like our own."
"The entire Earth has developed harmoniously, with technology continuously advancing towards a more prosperous future."
As Reed spoke, their vision continued to navigate through this futuristic city.
Finally, it stopped at a towering skyscraper.
Before them appeared a middle-aged man with graying temples, appearing to be around fifty or sixty years old.
He was dressed in a suit, standing in a luxurious office, overlooking the technologically advanced city below.
"Sir, I never imagined I had the potential to lead a company in this universe!"
Reed looked at the figure in a suit, even he found it somewhat unbelievable!
"However, although the version of me in this universe founded the company and became one of the richest individuals on Earth..."
"His passion and exploration for technology have never waned."
"Upon observation, his character is also sufficiently virtuous; the company he founded often dedicates itself to charitable causes, which has played an undeniable role in the rapid development of this entire city!"
"Therefore, he is more than qualified to be our first invited council member!"
