[Superman] Chapter 159: Building the Multiverse Gateway
🕑 Added 2024-06-23 05:09:40 +0000 UTCThe crisis from another universe this time has finally come to an end.
Although it caused great chaos in New York City,
With the protection of numerous heroes and the invaders from another universe deliberately avoiding civilian conflicts,
Fortunately, it did not cause significant harm to the civilians in the city.
It only resulted in considerable damage to some buildings in New York City.
However, the disaster relief teams contracted by Stark Industries and the government arrived promptly to begin rebuilding the destroyed buildings and roads.
The entire world once again returned to a peaceful state for a while.
However, high above in space, amid the battle,
Reed and his team of scientists, including Rocket, did not rest.
This sudden crisis, however, indirectly affirmed that their previous exploration and research into the universe were on the right path.
And the device they jointly created, capable of monitoring and connecting to other multiverses, indeed played a crucial role.
Being able to detect invasions from the DC universe naturally meant it could also monitor Marvel's infinite multiverse.
After a period of careful examination, continuous experimentation, and full refinement,
"Mr. Superman, we've finally succeeded!"
Less than a month later, Peter, who was idling around, finally received a message from Reed.
The special device capable of connecting to other multiverses had finally been declared a complete success.
Without hesitation, Peter opened the portal and appeared in the multiverse laboratory on the space station.
"Mr. Superman, you're here! Our research has finally, truly been completed at this moment. We can now establish the gateway to connect to other multiverses!"
Before Peter could observe his surroundings upon arrival, Reed, sensing Peter's arrival, was exuberant.
For a scientist like him, exploring unknown phenomena was the most exciting thing.
And exploring the unknown beyond the universe was the research direction that countless scientists dreamed of.
"Thank you, Mr. Superman. It's because of you that I've had this opportunity to explore the mysteries beyond the universe. Without meeting you, I can't imagine achieving such monumental achievements in my lifetime!"
Of course, Reed didn't forget that all this support came from Peter.
If he hadn't met Peter, he might still be a failure who couldn't gather funding for his research plans.
"No need to thank me. You've earned this through your own efforts."
Peter didn't care much about achievements in scientific research; for him, developing such technology was merely for his own service.
"Hey, Reed, shouldn't you also thank me?"
Suddenly, a somewhat dissatisfied voice came from beside them, and Rocket, currently in a comfortable reclining position on the couch,
With a glass of red wine in hand, the whole raccoon looked very lazy and comfortable.
"Human beings do know how to enjoy life after all. If Lyla were still alive, she would definitely love it here..."
Having spent only a few months on Earth, Rocket had already completely fallen in love with life on Earth.
Although lacking some thrilling cosmic adventures on Earth,
He didn't have to worry about crises that could arise at any moment, and the various delicious foods and drinks created by humans made him very fond of it.
"Mr. Superman, what it says is correct. Without Mr. Rocket's help, I alone probably couldn't have met your requirements for exploring the universe..."
"Mr. Rocket's brain is simply the most perfect and intelligent existence in the entire universe!"
Reed also deeply admired Rocket.
Its brain seemed more powerful than the most advanced human computers, capable of quickly devising solutions to various problems.
And the reason why the device connecting the multiverse could be built in such a short time was also crucially related to Rocket's assistance.
"Hehe, good to know how awesome I am!"
Rocket didn't care about fame; it just wanted to earn respect from others.
Since its birth, it had been lonely, jealous of the damn guy who created it, who had the most perfect brain in the universe.
And killed its few partners.
Until now, there have been few real partners that can really make it feel recognized.
And Reed, who worked with him for a while, while he couldn't call it a partner, at least a good friend.
Reed's persistence and efforts in scientific research also impressed him.
"All right, I've seen your efforts, both of you..."
"But now, let me see what surprises your research results can bring to me!"
Peter also smiled slightly, looking forward to how they could bring him such huge surprises.
"Rest assured, what you see next will definitely amaze you!"
Reed knew Peter's strength well, but Rocket wasn't afraid at all. He directly put down the wine glass and jumped off the slightly higher sofa than him.
Then he walked directly to the device they had just completed.
...
Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle!
Just as Rocket was about to demonstrate the incredible power of the device that could connect the multiverse,
A circular portal glowing with golden light suddenly appeared in the space station’s laboratory.
“Hehe, how could I miss such an important moment?”
The person on the other side of the portal had not yet stepped through, but a very arrogant voice came through.
Then, a figure slowly walked out of the portal—it was Tony, who had previously fought hundreds of rounds with Batman in the New York brawl.
“Hmph, uninvited guest!”
Rocket looked at the suddenly appearing figure, showing a hint of annoyance.
Of course, it wasn’t that he disliked Tony as a person, but he couldn’t stand Tony’s equally arrogant personality.
When the two met, they were either bickering or on the verge of bickering.
“Hey, you little furry toy, seems like you’re not welcoming me?”
“Don’t forget, I also contributed some revisions and suggestions to this research. I think I deserve to be part of this important moment!”
Tony walked towards Rocket, looking down at him, then without hesitation, reached out his hand and ruffled the fur on Rocket’s head a few times.
“You damn guy, stop it!”
Rocket shook off Tony’s hand, glaring at him with angry eyes.
“All right, since that's the case, let’s notify everyone else to come and watch too.”
“And remember to inform Magneto and Iceman. After all, whether this device is truly perfected requires their personal witnessing.”
The device to connect the multiverse was originally created to find the universe Magneto and Iceman came from and send them back to their original universe.
Now that the device was finally completed, it was time for them to witness whether this device could indeed send them back to their original universe.
“Okay, Mr. Superman, I’ll notify them right away!”
Reed didn’t hesitate, immediately notifying the others to come and watch the device in action, and for the first time, open the special passage connecting the multiverse.
...
Shortly after, a dozen people quickly arrived at the special laboratory.
Most of them were core members who joined when Steller Tech. was first established.
They were currently working on their respective scientific research fields and had achieved considerable success, contributing numerous advanced scientific achievements to the company.
“Peter, long time no see!”
Of course, as the main person in charge of Steller Tech., Dr. Otto also arrived.
Now, he had completely changed his previous somewhat disheveled style, wearing a luxurious suit with meticulously groomed hair, looking every bit the successful businessman.
At this moment, although he no longer devoted himself entirely to scientific research, he put all his energy into the company's development.
However, upon seeing Peter, he warmly greeted him.
His business acumen had indeed surprised Peter.
Indeed, in another universe, he had been able to establish a world-leading technology company in place of Spider-Man, demonstrating his formidable business talent.
Today, on this Earth, although Steller Tech. had been established for less than a year, it had achieved heights other companies could never reach.
It had become a dominant presence in numerous fields on Earth.
It had even surpassed Stark Industries, a century-old family enterprise, becoming the most famous and powerful private company on the planet.
Of course, Peter’s reputation from his civilized universe also played a significant role.
“Thank you for your hard work, Dr. Otto!”
However, this did not diminish Dr. Otto’s contributions to the company's development.
“It’s what I should do. If I hadn’t met you, I would probably…”
“Alright, let's not talk about other things. I called you all here today to witness a groundbreaking research achievement.”
“With Reed and Rocket's efforts, we have finally completed our exploration of other multiverses beyond our own.”
“Today, we will build a space-time portal connecting to other universes, opening the gates to the infinite multiverse for us!”
Peter spoke slowly, and his words instantly shocked everyone present.
“What? The research on the multiverse has achieved such incredible results so quickly?”
“Incredible! That’s the multiverse!”
“Opening the door to other multiverses would mean limitless resources…”
“Why do I feel like the door to the multiverse is like Pandora’s box? Once opened, it might bring not just benefits but also terrifying disasters…”
Some present had heard about the company’s multiverse research.
However, they hadn’t expected such astonishing results in such a short time.
Some were extremely excited because opening the gates to the infinite multiverse meant countless resources could be plundered from other universes.
Yet, some felt a strong sense of crisis and fear.
After all, it had been less than a month since the last universe-shaking invasion event.
If they could plunder endless resources from other multiverses, they would inevitably face crises brought by other multiverses.
However, regardless of their thoughts at this moment, nothing could change what was about to happen.
Fortunately, with Peter, a godlike figure, their internal worries were greatly alleviated.
The laboratory gradually fell into silence.
“Alright, Reed, Rocket, you can start now!”
Peter stood in front of everyone, his towering figure giving them a strong sense of security.
In the next moment, as Reed and Rocket slowly approached the special device, everyone fell into absolute silence.
They held their breath, their eyes showing either anticipation or a trace of worry.
But undoubtedly, no one wanted to miss this historic moment.
Especially Magneto and Iceman standing behind Peter, whose expressions showed not only anticipation but also a bit of nervousness.
“We finally have a chance to return to our original universe!”
Because the success of this experiment to build a universe-connecting portal would determine whether they could safely return to their original universe.
...
"Everyone, are you ready to welcome the dawn of a new era?"
"Next, we will reveal the universe beyond to everyone!"
Standing in front of the special device, Reed and Rocket exchanged a glance, then without hesitation, pressed the activation button.
In the next moment, the entire laboratory plunged into darkness as all lights suddenly went out.
"What’s happening? Did we lose power?"
"Impossible! The space station is powered by the latest stellar reactor. There's no way it could have a power outage."
"Could it be that even the stellar reactor cannot supply enough energy for the multiverse connection device to activate?"
As the lab was engulfed in darkness, some people couldn't help but feel a bit panicked.
However, suddenly, a faint light began to appear slowly above everyone.
"What is that?"
"It looks like a projection of Earth?"
As the light gradually brightened, someone recognized it as a miniature projection of Earth.
No, it wasn’t just Earth.
With a perspective akin to a sci-fi movie, everyone's gaze followed the projection as it zoomed out.
Gradually, Earth's projection became a tiny speck, and a blazing fireball appeared before everyone.
"The Sun! This is the Sun that gives us life!"
The Sun, too, lasted only a second in this special perspective before the view zoomed out again.
Countless stars appeared before them.
Next came billions of star systems, forming a vast galaxy...
Finally, until the view zoomed out beyond the boundaries of the universe, a hexagonal sphere appeared in front of everyone.
"Is this... our universe?"
Countless people stared at the glowing red sphere in awe.
But the zooming out did not stop.
As the huge sphere shrank into insignificance, another dimmer sphere appeared.
Eventually, hundreds to thousands of spheres of varying sizes and luminosities floated in the dark laboratory.
Finally, the view stopped.
"These are all the multiverses we can currently detect."
"We designate our universe as Universe One and number other universes sequentially based on their distance..."
"Ultimately, in Universe 838, we detected the same cosmic frequency fluctuations as those on Magneto."
"Next, we will build a space-time portal to Universe 838 to send Mr. Magneto back to his original universe."
"Mr. Magneto, are you ready to return to your home?"
With countless universes glowing red, all eyes turned to an excited Magneto, waiting for his answer.
