[Superman] Chapter 70: Awakening the Power of Thunder
🕑 Added 2024-01-20 17:36:55 +0000 UTCThe sun, the celestial body with the greatest mass in the solar system, and the only star in the solar system.
Without the sun, the entire solar system would cease to exist.
The billions of humans on Earth, and countless creatures, could not afford to lose the sun.
Otherwise, the Wandering Earth project might have to be initiated...
The sun's surface temperature of thousands of degrees could destroy any matter.
Yet today, a dazzling streak of light, at an unimaginable speed exceeding that of light, shot straight towards the sun through the vast cosmos.
Then stopped right beside the sun in an instant.
"So this is the sun?"
Although the sun could be seen every day on Earth, it was far less impactful than seeing the sun up close like this with one's own eyes.
The intense solar wind whipped up a mighty ion storm, its height almost making contact with Peter's body at this moment.
And at this moment, the sun unleashed its most pure radiant energy, flowing unceasingly into Peter's body.
Even the constantly churning golden solar storms seemed to be attracted by Peter's body, lingering around him, surging tremendous amounts of energy into him.
In this instant, every cell in Peter's body seemed to come alive, pulsing like hearts as they ceaselessly absorbed the sun's energy.
The extremely active cells continuously absorbed the sun's energy.
Causing Peter's strength, which had already explosively increased by over a hundred times after fusing with the template, to rapidly enhance again.
In less than an hour, Peter could feel his body's cells having a 'full' sensation for the first time.
Yet the sun still exerted an immense attraction on Peter, as if wanting him to plunge into its core.
At this moment, gazing at the sun right before his eyes, hesitation flashed in Peter's eyes.
"Next time."
In the end, Peter gave up on the daring idea of diving into the sun's core.
His entire body turned and headed away from the sun, into the depths of space. Moving even faster than before, he streaked away as a flash of light.
...
In the distant Asgard, Heimdall was still dutifully guarding the Bifrost as always.
His unique eyes also continually watched over the Nine Realms, probing for any special occurrences.
Suddenly, he recalled that new god of Midgard who had defeated Thor, crushed Mjolnir, and even driven Odin away.
His eyes flickered with hesitation for a moment.
But determination filled his expression the next moment as his eyes turned, gazing at Midgard.
"How is this… possible? To become so powerful in such a short time?"
However, the instant his sight tried to look at that Earth god, it was directly 'repelled' back by a piercing flash of light.
At this moment, even with the strongest eyes in the Nine Realms, the intense radiance made his eyes faintly ache.
It took a full few minutes for his vision to gradually recover.
Yet now, he no longer dared set his sights on that new god of Midgard.
"For that guy to become so powerful in such a short time, does Thor really still stand a chance to defeat him and redeem his humiliation?"
Heimdall couldn't help but doubt whether even Thor, as Odin's son, truly had the opportunity to defeat that terrifying being.
As he pondered this, Heimdall's eyes unconsciously drifted towards the place Thor was exiled.
Coming into view was an unimaginably massive tree.
Its lush foliage seemed capable of covering the entirety of the Nine Realms.
Its branches stretching out from the trunk had already disappeared into the void, with no visible end - making it impossible to determine just how gigantic it was.
As his eyes roamed, a familiar figure soon came into sight beneath the World Tree.
Only, he was currently upside down, using the World Tree's vines to bind his legs as he hung below the World Tree.
"Has Prince Thor still not awakened the power of thunder within him?"
Originally, Heimdall had full confidence in his friend Thor as the God of Thunder.
Believing that even without Mjolnir, he could still rely on his mighty will to fuse with his Thunder God lineage and awaken the power of thunder.
But after that glimpse just now, he suddenly realized Thor's potential seemed insignificant compared to that terrifying being.
During the time Thor was exiled, he had been observing him the whole time.
He saw Thor fall into degeneracy for a period, then somehow got the idea to hang upside down under the World Tree.
However, the World Tree was not like an ordinary tree.
Hanging upside down under the World Tree, without an exceptionally powerful will, ordinary people simply could not manage it.
Even with the Asgardian physique, Thor barely lasted a minute the first time, his will nearly crushed.
But as Thor kept trying, he could endure for longer periods.
Heimdall could clearly sense Thor's willpower growing continuously.
Up until today, Thor could persist for a full four hours.
Yet today, Heimdall noticed something different about Thor.
"Could this be...a sign of awakening the… Thunder Power?"
On the inverted body hanging under the tree, faint flashes of electricity had emerged.
As time passed, the electric radiance grew brighter, circulating over his body unceasingly.
"Is Thor finally...going to awaken the true power of the God of Thunder?"
At this moment, as Thor's best friend, Heimdall sincerely rejoiced for him.
Suddenly, Thor's tightly shut eyes abruptly opened.
But his eyes no longer contained their original pupils, instead replaced by two dazzling flashes of silver light.
The next instant, the brilliant lightning coiling around Thor exploded forth with tremendous power.
The World Tree vines binding his feet were torn apart in the swirling electricity.
Thor's body also completely freed itself from the World Tree, falling towards the ground.
Boom!
While dropping, Thor forcibly changed his body's orientation, landing on one knee in a dashing pose.
"Excellent, I did it! I've finally truly awakened the power of thunder!"
Rising slowly, gazing at the dazzling electric radiance around his hands, Thor threw his head back and laughed wildly.
Heimdall, who witnessed it all, was equally excited as Thor. He immediately activated the Bifrost and brought Thor back to Asgard.
"Heimdall, did you see? I did it, I really did it!"
Having just returned to Asgard, Thor spread his arms wreathed in the power of thunder, showing his best friend Heimdall.
Crack!
Within Asgard's skies which were always calm, thick clouds suddenly gathered and a bolt of lightning flashed, illuminating all of Asgard.
"This prodigal son, has finally not disappointed me this time."
Atop the magnificently golden hall, Odin in golden armor, Gungnir in hand, sensing the sudden thunder, his previously weary expression vanishing in that instant.
"That fool actually managed to do it?"
Below the hall, however, Loki's expression drastically changed.
He had intended to seize Asgard's throne again while Thor was away.
Yet, in the end, he was still a step too late.
"Heimdall, come with me quickly to see Father, I must share this great news with him!"
Filled with excitement like a child now, Thor beckoned Heimdall to go see Odin together.
"And that guy, I will definitely defeat him this time and wipe away my humiliation!"
Then as if recalling something, his expression became extremely resolute.
"No need, Thor. The Allfather must already know everything."
"Also, the Allfather instructed that after you awakened the power of thunder, you should go to Nidavellir and have the dwarves forge you a new weapon!"
Heimdall's excited expression gradually faded, and then without waiting for Thor's refusal, he activated the Bifrost once more.
The pillar of light enveloped Thor and shot towards the realm of the dwarves, Nidavellir!
...
