Honestly, this is the sort of twisted manipulation I myself have difficulty getting through in stories (angries up the blood, it does), so please believe me when I say I'm only including as much as I feel necessary for this story.
Had I infinite space, I would have included the note that Tedd actually was smelling the laundry, but only to make sure they were actually clean, and in a reasonable way that would make not a single person ask "just what the carp are you doing".

Yes, subtle villainy is harder to tolerate even in one's own writing. Maybe that's why I've never tried.
