Everyone could tell that winter was coming, Uku especially so, and she was the one of the few who could gauge its severity by the bitter sting in the air. Her senses were especially acute, they had to be, for Uku had no tribe to protect her, not even a traveling companion to watch her back. Uku preferred it that way. She had been born alone and self-sufficient, and she had remained that way up to this very moment.
Unfortunately, it seemed like survival would be more difficult than usual for the lone cavewoman. Enduring the harsh winter was one thing, she'd lived through plenty before. However, the migration of mammoths which she usually relied upon for a stockpile of meat were completely absent this season. Not even a single hoof-print could be seen in the rapidly hardening ground.
Uku knew better than to dismiss the disappearance of the mammoths as mere anomaly. She knew there must've been some kind of cause behind it, and she already had her suspicions about what exactly it was. There were indicators that a new tribe had been setting up in this territory for months now. Perhaps they'd managed to intercept the herd of mammoths before Uku could get her hands on them. If that was the case, they'd made a dire mistake. Uku was more than willing to indulge in 'alternative' food sources, even when more typical avenues of sustenance were available. With her main source of meat cut off, and Uku feeling rather wronged and spiteful, there was no way Uku wasn't going to unleash her most lethal appetites.
The Taluk tribe were very lucky indeed. Having migrated out of a land that had become inhospitable, they had happened upon a new territory that was not only abundant with resources, but seemingly absent of any other tribes that could compete with them. If only they knew that the scarcity of their fellow man was only so because Uku had worked very hard to keep it that way, through use of a peculiar and terrifying talent of hers that they were soon to find themselves on the receiving end of.
For now, they were blissfully unaware of the danger they'd unwittingly entered, as they sat comfortably within their cave, dining upon their abundant reserves of mammoth meat in celebration of their successful hunt. There was no reason not to indulge, as they had more than enough to last them through the winter. The pelts from the slaughtered creatures would keep them warm as well, and were large enough to shroud several members of the tribe at a time.
It would have been a safe, successful winter for the Taluk tribe, if only they'd known not to get between Uku and her food.
Despite their one major mistake, the Taluk tribe were quite wise overall, which was one of the reasons why they'd been so successful. They were smart enough to position a pair of warriors in front of the mouth of their cave, each armed with a long spear with a sharpened tusk from one of the slain mammoths as its tip, just in case there were any wandering scavengers or wild animals who wanted a piece of their winter hoard. In the end, what the soldiers ended up facing was somewhere in between.
Uku was such a terrifying sight, such an imposing figure that even the hands of those experienced warriors began to tremble as she approached.
Tall, strong-looking women were far than unusual, but even for someone who'd spent her entire life hunting Uku was an anomaly. She towered over the two warriors, her body nothing but muscle from head to toe. Bulging biceps, thick, sinewy legs, large, gnarled hands that were as dexterous as they were bluntly brutal, a tight shield of abs over a taut stomach that was quite unhappily empty. Her hair looked as though it had never been cut once, and groomed seldom if at all. Long and black, it fell in a tangle almost all the way down below her rear, which, considering her height was quite distance indeed. Like many women of her day, she opted to go topless, with only an animal pelt wrapped around her waist to serve as clothing. This was purely for protection, and not to preserve her modesty, which was a concept that had yet to be invented, and would be inapplicable to Uku even if it had. Her breasts were quite large, with dark, stiff nipples, that sagged a considerable amount under their own weight.
It wasn't just her sheer stature that terrified the guards, nor her countless scars which suggested she'd been in dozens of battles and survived. It was her eyes. They were quite literally inhuman, with yellow irises and slitted pupils like that of a snake. Her gaze was equal parts chilling and hypnotic, just like the creatures' they resembled.
She didn't seem to have any interest in the pair of guards directly. Instead, she looked past them with her serpentine glare, nose twitching as she sniffed the air intently, until she suddenly stopped. She had picked up a whiff of exactly what she was looking for; confirmation. There was no doubt that the Taluk tribe was squatting on the abundance of mammoth meat that should have been hers, and with that knowledge in mind, their fate had been sealed.
The soldiers were the first to experience Uku's ability firsthand. She had developed this particular skill out of necessity, for food was often scarce without a tribe to assist her. She could not afford to simply strip the meat completely from a creature's bone, she needed to extract every last bit of sustenance from them in order to ensure her survival. Besides, she couldn't always guarantee the most accessible sources of meat would come in the form of animals. Her eyes didn't merely convey her cold, reptile-like ferocity, they were an indicator of what exactly her nightmarish power was.
She was fast in spite of her size, or perhaps because of it, as her muscular legs propped her forwards at the first of the guards, who wouldn't have been able to react even if fear wasn't dampening his reflexes. She snatched him up, grabbing him by the waist with both hands, and then hoisting the burly warrior above her head as though he were weightless. He dropped his spear, his ivory lance clattering against the cave floor as it landed.
The other warrior was allowed more time for a counterattack than his partner, although not by much, not enough to make up for how stunned he was by what he witnessed. Ultimately, it didn't take much time for his companion to vanish, as Uku began to unhinge her jaw, not unlike the serpent from which she'd inherited her eyes, and began to lower the squirming, struggling spearman into her gaping maw head first.
Her mouth was more than wide enough to envelop him. She was wise to start with his head, as her fleshy mouth smothered him, dampening his screams and preventing him from alerting the other members of the tribe deeper in the cave. There was nothing stopping the other guard from doing the same, besides the fact that watching the woman devour the other man alive had left him completely speechless.
Though it seemed agonizingly slow for both the warrior being devoured and the other one witnessing it, in reality it only took a few seconds for Uku's prey to be completely devoured. Once his head was securely sandwiched between her jaws, and his head well-lubricated by her saliva, it only took a single gulp to suck the entirety of his upper body into her throat. The other warrior watched as her gullet swelled, and the visible outline of her prey's terrified face could be seen encased in the taut flesh. A second swallow came not a second later, and that was enough to suck up most of his lower body, distending further the bulge in her throat and leaving only his desperately kicking legs remaining.
With a third and final swallow his body vanished down her throat completely. His saliva-slicked form slid down her throat with little trouble, and landed in her stomach where a bubbling lake of acids and enzymes awaited him.
The warrior watched as her belly bloated out, bearing a vague but unmistakable outline of his former fellow guard and current food for Uku. He watched her gut shift as he writhed about inside, though his movement was hampered by the limited space inside that hot, suffocating stomach. Each of his desperate flails was accompanied by a sickening slosh from deep within her guts, which had been letting out a persistent gurgle ever since her prey arrived there.
Uku turned to the second guard, and laid a hand over her mouth as her jaw fixed itself back into place. She stifled a belch, as the warrior's flailing was giving her indigestion, and she didn't want to alert the other members of the tribe prematurely with an echoing eructation. Besides, she still had one more guard to contend with.
