You get to appreciate season 2 so much more after watching this episode. Zeke and the gang were turning Connie's village into titan and around the same time they were posted up at Udgard castle for the night. In S2 our scouts mention that they think that some bandits might have stayed at that castle. They even find vine with markings that they can't read.

S 4 p1 had 16 episodes which comprised 26 manga chapters. There are still 23 chapters to adapt to the anime so going off that and recognising that the biggest events of the series are still to come there could be anything between 15 and 18 rpisodes

I saw an online post saying that in the manga, it was stated that the Eldians who got dropped from the airship in Ep. 1 were convicts, but that part was cut from the anime. I think that makes sense bc it would explain why they were restrained. The weird faces could also be a result of them being drugged and/or mentally unstable, like you said. I didn’t read that part of the manga since I only read from chapter 116 onward, so I can’t say if it’s 100% true. Maybe someone else who’s read it can confirm.
