Retrospective: Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules, Part 3

It's the third (and closing) instalment of the Delilah Dirk Three Retrospective! Come, come, push past those miserable skeletons and dive into this book with me.
As with the previous instalment, I'm hosting the actual post over on my own Secret Blog, for a variety of reasons I mentioned in the previous post. As before, please don't share the link publicly.
Dive in for some thoughts about the "balance" of the weight in a story, a potentially worrying thing I learned about myself (not, like, seriously), the names of Delilah's swords, a personal concern about one of the story's themes (this time, like, seriously), and the alarming way in which I received some very good news.

All three of the big Delilah Dirk books have now been Retrospectivized! Peruse the collection here! All that's left is the little Delilah Dirk and the Seeds of Good Fortune, which I would like to revisit but which I will leave until I get a decent amount of Chapter Five of Practical Defence pencilling under my belt.

I hope these retrospectives have been interesting to read! They're a lot of work, and I still feel foolish presuming anyone would want to hear my "Director's Commentary," while also feeling exposed, revealing some of these inside thoughts. If you feel like challenging anything I've said, or have any insights you'd like to share, I'd love to hear 'em, either in the comments or by DM.
Next week I'm looking forward to sharing more Chapter Five work. Maybe even… pencilled pages? Will I have learned how to photograph the light blue linework by then? Only time will tell.

I appreciate the time you take to share these retrospectives. Making a graphic novel is a damned hard thing, but you should know it never feels like that for your reader — DD is always elegant and engaging.

I have always thought that Merrick boots DD out of the way of the falling pillar to save her life, and even though that didn't make sense to me given the fight that follows, it never occurred to me to think of the sword. I'm so glad you addressed this in the retrospective.
