Thinking more on the comment "I told you that beastkin instincts are very good. It’s how we survive and gauge how dangerous monsters are in the wild. And mine tell me that I wouldn’t stand a chance against you" Does this mean that the beastkin instincts could sync with the perception part of Julius's sensing skill is this something that can be added to the upgraded skill or is it something that Julius can already do but has not practised. as Polux can detect Julius's Mana Control and how dangerous he is...

Think an offer for private training is coming?

Kyfe

The people of this world are so focused on numbers going up, it's unthinkable for them to train in a way that prevents that from happening. They obviously understand resistance training, but the Skill Levels have blinded them to the obvious benefit of applying that logic to the Skill Levels themselves. Also, now we know why Pollux is always staring at Julius. Of course you're going to keep your eyes on the most dangerous creature in the room, lol. Especially if that creature is actively trying to act weak. It's a bit interesting that Pollux has basically confirmed Julius is the strongest 1st Year. He said he "wouldn't stand a chance" against Julius, but I'm guessing he probably thinks he could stand a chance against that female genius (can't remember her name off the top of my head), so that says a lot, lol.

Kyfe

I don't think Pollux actually realizes it's a training tool. His mention of it implies it's used to hide for hunting, not to train. In fact, training with handicaps seems to be universally unknown in this world. Everyone is worried about their Skill Levels going up, so it would seem counterintuitive to them to do things to hold those numbers down. If I were him, I would mention that the soul suppression is just the latest way he's intentionally handicapping himself to improve his training. I would mention learning how to control Mana without the Mana Manipulation Skill until he could use it at will without it before he ever even accepted the Skill. And he doesn't even need to argue about the results. They're already self evident to Pollux. I could see a lightbulb going off in the Beastkin's head after Julius explains "resistance training" (basically, lol).

Kyfe

Yeah, but people don't hear what others say to them when they're standing right next to them all the time if they're distracted. He wrote that they were distracted with their own things at the time, so it's totally believable that nobody heard anything. It's also a good way to do what he said and insert it later that someone DID.

Kevin McKinney

Oh, the plot thickens! Great!

Mantiqore

On one side, I’m wishing for the gig to be up, and reading the reactions of others. On the other side, that’ll probably only happen once, and this suspense lets me imagine that reaction more often

Sean

I do sometimes dislike these conversations since Julius drags them out intentionally. Like it's not the end of the world if you mention you have enemies you need to keep your head down for. It would be a succinct answer that Pollux could understand and wouldn't give away anything. I think this is like the third conversation he's had where someone lightly prods him for information and he just back pedals and redirects like they're about to learn something fundamentally dangerous about him. He's in an academy of nobles, I bet everyone has enemies. His continuous refusals, redirects, and vague answers just paint more of a target on him than if he had a believable story.

I thought he was asking why he was wearing the device to suppress himself as i read it as Pollux assumes the device is to make Julius look weak (kinda hidden strength to get an advantage). So i figured the answer would be to say the suppression tool is not to make me look weak but to help me train this mana control and see how effective it is, you noticed my mana control. That way he explains wearing the suppression tool AND why he is so good at mana control. The question about how he could be ok with being seen as weak i thought was an open ended question at the end of the chapter and i was expecting a profound answer next chapter 😄 Purely speculation but i was expecting the answer to the weak reputation question is Julius learning about himself during the previous chapter where his soul was shredded due to over training, and his friends that were willing to jump in and help him out (while being upset that he would do this harm to himself) while getting nothing in return. So something like "As long as i have the respect and trust of the people important to me why should i care about how people who dont know me see me. I know myself and am training to be better tomorrow than i am today and that is enough." I maybe projecting there so could be completely out to lunch. 🙂

Ryan

Thank you! <3

Just the pattern recognition brain going, but the next paragraph has I think a word missing, I think it might be "know", and then I thought "knew" might've been the end of the paragraph and then I was thinking maybe some tool for word choice didn't finish properly or something... was my random thought while reading; besides all the appreciation for the great chapter and story and work you put in

Ryan

Weird, I don't know how I nor Grammarly didn't catch that.

Ryan

That's true. I thought about the idea of one of them overhearing, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to. Still, this just allows me to insert something like that if I end up choosing to do so later.

Orthneil Kelley Jr.

Thanks for the chapter. I hope he doesn't react poorly to just how strong Julius actually is...

Xiver

There are two consecutive sentences that begin with "When he got there, ".

Arrogant Savant

Polux already knows its a training tool, he's directly asking "how can you deal with the shame of being weak"

ambullseye

Actually i thought the easier answer was to just claim it as a training tool. say (truthfully as a matter of fact) that the suppression tool helps him train his mana manipulation. both of these have already been noticed by Pollux so Julius would not be giving out more information and would be able to give a reason for why.

7th paragraph ends mid sentence

Raymond Mouton

Good chapter. Interesting interaction with Pollux, I might have missed it, but I don’t recall Julius and Pollux being far enough away that the others can’t hear them. Should be potentially complicated next chapter. Found the line, but they are still talking in earshot. Leaves potential issues if they are overheard during a pause.

Oliver Reilly

So do we have a new sparring partner in Polux ?

Arrogant Savant

It'd be easy if Julius waved it off saying "it's to win the first year tournament" but we know it's his hesitation to reveal his talents in fear of house Greyson. I wonder though if Julius is valuable enough that someone would be willing to stand against house Greyson (or it could be a thing where Julius winning the tournament proves his worth)

RedLeaf

Thanks for the chapter!
