Where is it ever stated that our MC is an adult in a child's body? We don't know how old Julian was on Earth. We know that his parents and sister died when he was 12 and that his grandfather died "several years later" at an age of "almost 80." If grampa was in this 30s when Julian's mother was born, and she was in her 30s when she gave birth to Julian then Julian would still be a teenager, IOW several years older than 12 but not necessarily an adult. The story says that he had friends from school but I don't recall any mention of him having a job. Definitely nothing about having a wife or children of his own, either. Nothing to support the idea that he was ever an adult. And regardless of his age on Earth, he does not take over the body of the child Julius. The two souls were merged together into a new person that is a mix of the 7 year old Julius and the "adult" Julian, taking likes and dislikes and attitudes and opinions from both sources. And the resulting soul was dropped into a child's body with a child's brain structure and a child's hormones. Throughout this story, I don't recall Julius ever being portrayed as an adult. So far as I can recall, he has only ever been portrayed as an unusually strong juvenile with memories from Earth.

Hamfist

Is the Fallen Spire Sect a "former sect?" As for blaming Julius for the road trip, I doubt they would blame him as in arrest and prosecution. There is no need for them to officially scapegoat anybody about the time it takes her to return to school. They are the imperial family and they can do what they want without owing explanations to anybody. They will certainly form a negative opinion of him but I doubt they'd bother with anything more. What seems certain to happen is that Amelia will be even more insufferable than ever towards both of them. Since Amelia had to stay away from the Princess in public to prevent Julius from making the connection to Grace, the princess had some moments of freedom that she really enjoyed. All of that is over now that Jules knows the truth and she'd better enjoy her taste of freedom on this little adventure because she probably won't get a moment to herself when they return to school. Maybe if she adopts a Julius-level training regimen and can show massive gains when she returns it will blunt the anger and convince Amelia to let them continue spending time together?

LordHailith

Oh no someone is butt hurt that I criticized an author!!

SenileZebra

Yeah, that makes sense. Also just to be clear, I wasn't trying to criticize the story with my comments. These were just my thoughts going into this arc. I was trying to express that the challenges they may face in transit are less concerning to me for their safety than the potential dangers at the end of the trip. I hope that makes sense.

Ya, he has enough connections at this point to make it politically uncomfortable to use him as a scapegoat without a fair amount of evidence. And since the princess can just say that she wanted some freedom and just never told him about the beacon as an explanation for why they didn't use it. He should be fine. He might get on the bad side of her family, maybe, but probably not, athe end of the day only Ryn knows. In my opinion they more more likely to do one of three things. One try to "vanish" him if they find them before they get back, two try to scape goat him then realize it's a terrible idea and back peddle hard, or three if he gets to tier three before they get back reward him for helping the princess back.

SenileZebra

True, the Tier 6's might help but we don't know how influential they are with the royal family. It's less about whether they legitimately think he's responsible and more about politics in my mind. Who knows he has any backing? How effective is that backing and how far will they go? To the royalty, it might be much more palatable to blame a seemingly ordinary first year for interfering with things than to admit that the Princess chose to ignore her responsibilities and not activate her beacon. Then added to everything else, they're traveling with people connected to the former Fallen Spire Sect and it could all be twisted into something that sounds even worse.

Jayden Shannon

Oh No tHE fAnTaSY NoVel iSn’T ReAlisTiC EnoUgH LOL.

Pedro Sernagiotto

I mean, they can say they struggled for much longer to escape a weaker Tier 3 Rift, and after the teleportation, the beacon was malfunctioning like it did happen. Even if they don’t buy it, I don’t see how they would blame a seemingly ordinary first year for the whims of a Princess, who is also much stronger than him in their eyes. His connections with his fourth year friends and the two Tier 6 probably would take care of most of any trouble that comes his way.

SenileZebra

The main thing that worries me about this little road trip plan that Julius has decided to go along with is the reality of what happens when it ends. The Princess will be fine because she's royalty. Julius, however, makes a very attractive scapegoat for why she didn't use her beacon. The two of them can say whatever they want but I can't foresee a world in which Julius isn't blamed and likely imprisoned for this debacle regardless of his guilt or innocence.

LordHailith

I feel the story is losing its edge. An adult living in a child’s body would not realistically tolerate someone—friend or not—causing them so much trouble. The princess, in particular, doesn’t even come across as a true friend given how many times she has selfishly acted against the main character's interests. Her actions lack accountability, and it’s hard to see how someone so uncaring and self-centered could consistently get their way without facing any consequences. While I understand the author has been receiving harsh feedback, I strongly encourage making the story more believable by addressing this dynamic. Stories feel more authentic and engaging when actions have consequences. Rather than a “look” given to them and an unbelievable apology as their only consequence. Allowing a selfish character to get their every whim without repercussion doesn’t reflect real life or good storytelling.

Sean

I'm wondering how many favors Julius will get on his way back. I'm guessing two more.

Sean

Think it's some hocus pocus your spirit and body have to align type beat so it will happen whenever it is most narratively convenient :)

Zach

YAY ADVENTURE! Going to eat all the food, somehow fight that eldritch horror, somehow convince this shadow to give them tips, and fall in love with a princess!

Nanooki12

How far is he from reaching tier 3? It has not been very clear on his progress there.

Detrox

I had an idea that he could have asked the Elder Han if he recognises the name of the godlike guy who pulled him out of the rift. Could have been an interesting conversation.

I hope julius finds some time to reach rank 3 early on their journey, though a solid princess training montage wouldn't be too bad either!

I like all these crotchety old hidden masters.
