Dave had the good sense to look sheepish. “Sorry babe, I know that was a tough position I put you in.”
“Oh, honey,” her brown eyes gleamed, “you can put me in any position you want.” Vanessa high-fived Shawna while Tasha smiled and laughed.

“So, about an hour after your text that finally let us know that the two of you were alive and well, Vee gets a call informing us that we’re being relocated and that help is on the way. The soldiers split up and worked under their guidance. Reena took care of Becca's things as well as her own, since Becca was helping Esme.”
The dark-skinned woman paused for a moment. She lay her head on Dave’s shoulder. “When the kitchen was done, Lupe led them over to her house for furniture and such that we hadn’t brought over yet, or hadn’t had space for. One of the soldiers had already passed along that the new place was much larger, with more rooms. “Well, then I remembered the weapons closet, but I had no idea how to open it. I managed to get hold of Olivia, who told me the passcode and how to open the access panel. They still insisted on ‘special handling’ so they brought in … armors? No, armorers, that’s it. Anyway, they supervised moving the weapons. Everything that was in the secret closet is in the upstairs security room. Oh, and Mel took care of your office, especially the computer. Those boxes should be in your new office. Have you seen it yet?” She sat back up straight as she finished.
“Yes, Vanessa showed me around the house. The office is really nice. I’m a little leery of not having a wall behind my back, but the view is great.” He paused for a moment. “But how was this house here and ready anyway? Or do I want to know?”
Vanessa took over the conversation from Shawna. “Well, this area was already undergoing rebuilding. This whole circle we’re on – all five houses – was part of a new gentrification mixed development. Once the powers that be realized we would need to consolidate the surviving population, the Lakeview area was picked as one of the hubs. “Anyway, when the powers that be decided we needed to be relocated immediately, this was the only available house large enough. If I overheard some side conversations correctly, the errand boy was mollified by giving him a larger estate in the same gated community as his boss. It had been slated for another super rich guy, a peer to the errand boy’s boss, but that guy died just as his first partner walked up the drive. Now, that brings me to an idea I had this morning. I'm liking this chapter, though it's doesn't have any real conflict in it, except inside Dave's head; it DOES give quite a bit of explanation as to how Dave's team resolves disagreements pretty quickly. Hopefully Dave will get a regeneration soon, which would help with relieving the PTSD from recent activities and older traumas, much like Lexi in the original story of CP. ... And the only really weird typo I've seen is at the very start of the chapter, where the initial intro got savaged just a little bit, going partway though the very beginning, then cutting off and repeating the whole thing and finishing the intro.
