Digimon Ch 74
🕑 Added 2025-10-08 15:21:50 +0000 UTCI'm chilling on the couch, channel surfing, when the emergency broadcast cuts in. Some talking head is babbling about "unconfirmed reports" and "potential threats," but then the feed switches to live footage, and that's when it gets real.
Holy crap, it's like Godzilla decided to have a rumble in Midtown.
The camera shakes like it's having a seizure as it tries to focus on the street. The streets are in total pandemonium. People run in every direction, tripping over themselves to get away from something. Cars are flipped like toys, some on fire, others crushed under what looks like a green giant's size-50 foot.
"What the actual hell is going on?" I mutter.
Then I see them. Two behemoths trading blows, demolishing everything around them. One is the Hulk, looking pissed as usual, smashing cars with his bare hands. The other… damn. It's the Abomination. Bony spikes jut out all over the place. He roars, and the sound that comes out is monstrous.
The news anchor's voice cracks as she describes the scene. "…authorities are urging all citizens to evacuate Manhattan immediately. Military personnel are on-site, but the situation remains… volatile."
"Volatile" is putting it mildly.
I see soldiers firing machine guns, but the bullets bounce off both creatures like nothing. Tanks roll in, firing shells, but the Abomination just swats them aside. The Hulk grabs a taxi and hurls it like a sandbag.
"Well, this is just great," I sigh.
Agumon is practically glued to the TV screen, jaw hanging open. "That's... that's a really big guy," he states.
"No kidding, Sherlock," BlackGatomon chimes in, claws clicking against the armrest. "Are we gonna do something about it, or are we just gonna sit here and watch the city get turned into rubble?"
I take a deep breath. Do I really want to get involved in this mess? Last time we tangled with the Hulk, it nearly ended with me getting a green-sized beatdown. Now we're talking about the Abomination, who looks to be in the same weight class.
I replay the scene in my head. Hulk is going to win if I remember the movie plot correctly. He always does, right? But the amount of destruction along the way… the people caught in the crossfire…
My gut twists. I can't just sit here. Even if it's a suicide mission, I can't let more people get hurt.
"Alright, everyone gear up," I announce, standing up. "We're heading to Harlem."
"Finally," BGM smirks. "Time to kick some monster butt."
"We're not trying to 'kick butt'," I retort, already strategizing in my head. "We're trying to minimize casualties. Hopefully, if we get there fast enough we can minimize the damage before Hulk finally wins."
With a nod, the Digimon get it. I hold out the Digivice, and they compress into glowing data streams before disappearing into the device. I give it a quick tap, making sure everyone is comfy and ready to roll. I hope that if something happens to me that the Digivice won't break.
I hit the street. The air smells like smoke and panic. A quick whistle, and Behemoth roars to life, materializing right in front of me, flames licking at the asphalt. The bike practically vibrates with eagerness.
"Alright, you beast," I say, swinging a leg over the seat. "Let's ride."
The engine screams, and we tear off towards Harlem. The traffic is insane. Cars are abandoned in every direction, doors flung open, alarms blaring. People are scrambling for safety, faces etched with terror. I weave through the chaos, Behemoth dodging obstacles with unnerving precision. It is like it knows what I want to do.
I crank the throttle, pushing Behemoth to its limit. The world becomes a blur of motion, sirens and screams fading into a high-pitched whine. I’m not sure what we can do. It’s one thing to fight some random Digimon in an abandoned warehouse, but this is a whole different level of crazy. This is like a boss battle on steroids. Still, gotta try, right? Maybe we can distract them, buy some time, or at least help some people get out of the way.
The closer I get to Harlem, the louder the screams become. This isn't some abstract news story anymore. These are real people, terrified out of their minds, and I'm about to drive straight into the middle of it. Time to rock and roll.
I swerve into a relatively clear side street, kill the engine, and hop off Behemoth. The big guns need to come out now.
"Alright, people, let's go!" I shout, tapping the Digivice like it owes me money. In a flash of light, Gatomon, BlackGatomon, and Cutemon materialize. The three are on high alert.
"Okay, here's the deal," I say, trying to keep my voice steady. "Gatomon and BlackGatomon, I need you two to help evacuate as many people as possible. Get them to safety. Use your speed, use your claws, do whatever it takes."
"Got it," Gatomon says, already scanning the area, her blue eyes sharp and focused. BlackGatomon just cracks her knuckles, a predatory grin spreading across her face. They are already springing into action.
"Cutemon," I continue, turning to the small pink Digimon, "I need you to stick with the injured and start healing them. Do your thing."
"Okay, chu~!" Cutemon says with determination. The small Digimon can be clutch.
Okay, now for the heavy hitter.
"MailBirdramon, you're up, buddy."
Another tap of the Digivice, and MailBirdramon appears, dwarfing the street with his mechanical wings.
"MailBirdramon, I need you to support the Hulk," I shout over the din of the chaos. "Try to distract the Abomination, keep him off the Hulk's back. Don't engage directly unless you absolutely have to."
"Understood, Ethan," MailBirdramon replies, his voice calm and steady despite the pandemonium. "I will provide aerial support and harassment."
"Good," I say. "Let's try to make a difference."
With that, MailBirdramon launches into the air, a blue streak against the smoky sky. Now it's just me. I climb back onto Behemoth, rev the engine, and prepare to follow the mechanical bird into the heart of the madness. Gotta make sure these guys don't get too banged up out there.
This is gonna be rough.
