Digimon Ch 41

One of the OG bad guys from Digimon Adventure. A dude who could tango with Champion-level Digimon like it was a walk in the park.
He's way out of my league.
Gatomon and BlackGatomon stand beside me, bristling with energy. They're strong, sure, but are they strong enough? We're on a rooftop, with no escape, with just us three. Can we even stand a chance against this fallen angel?
My mind races, trying to calculate the odds, to find some kind of strategy. But honestly, I'm drawing a blank. It is just like facing down an actual god. It's like facing down a force of nature.
"Well, guys," I say, my voice barely above a whisper, "looks like we're in for the fight of our lives." I grab my Digi-Gloves tightly. "Let's do this!"
Gatomon and BlackGatomon don't need any more encouragement. They charge at Devimon, claws extended, ready to tear him apart. Gatomon goes high, aiming for a 'Lightning Paw' strike at his face, while BlackGatomon goes low, trying to sweep his legs out from under him with her own 'Lightning Paw'.
Devimon doesn't even flinch. He just flicks a hand, sending a blast of dark energy at Gatomon that knocks her back, sending her skidding across the rooftop. He then twists, slamming a clawed fist into BlackGatomon's gut, sending her flying in the other direction.
"Is that all you got?" Devimon sneers, his voice dripping with malice. "I expected more from the partners of a Chosen Child."
Gatomon and BlackGatomon get back on their feet, panting slightly. They exchange a look, a silent agreement passing between them. They attack again, this time coordinating their assault. Gatomon unleashes a barrage of 'Cat's Eye' attacks, trying to confuse and disorient Devimon, while BlackGatomon circles around him, looking for an opening.
Devimon laughs, swatting away the 'Cat's Eye' attacks like they're nothing. He's too fast, too strong. I see a dark aura swirling around his body, a tangible sign of the power he's wielding.
"What is that?" I yell, pointing at the darkness.
Devimon grins, a truly terrifying sight. "You really don't know? It's quite simple, really. Just like you Chosen Children gain strength from the positive emotions of humans, we, too, can draw power from the negative emotions."
He gestures towards the distant sounds of panic and screams coming from the school below. "Stane's hatred, his rage, his desire for revenge… it fuels me. It makes me stronger."
He spreads his arms wide, reveling in the power. "You think you can defeat me? You, a mere child, and your pathetic little Digimon? You haven't even begun to grasp the power you're up against."
He's right. I can feel it. He's stronger than anything we've faced before. But I can't back down. Not now.
"We'll see about that!" I shout, summoning the Royal Shield. I activate it just as Devimon launches himself at us, claws outstretched. The Shield appears in front of Gatomon and BlackGatomon just in time, taking the full force of Devimon's attack. The impact sends a shock through my arms, and I stumble back a step. But the Shield holds.
"Not bad, kid," Devimon says, his crimson eyes narrowing. "But a shield won't save you forever."
He's not kidding.
With a guttural roar, Devimon redoubles his assault. His claws slash at the Royal Shield, each strike sending jolts of energy up my arms. The hexagonal beam shimmers, cracks spider-webbing across its surface. It can't hold much longer.
Then, with one final, earth-shattering blow, Devimon shatters the Shield. The force of the explosion sends me, Gatomon, and BlackGatomon tumbling backward. We slam against the edge of the rooftop, barely managing to keep from plummeting to the street below.
I groan, pushing myself up onto my elbows. My head swims, and my vision blurs. Gatomon and BlackGatomon are in worse shape, lying motionless on the concrete. I look at Devimon, who stands over us, a triumphant smirk on his face.
He's just too strong. Way too strong. We're outmatched, outgunned, and out of options.
Should I stall? Maybe if I can buy some time, Greymon and Garurumon will arrive. But even if they do, there's no guarantee they can work together effectively enough to take down Devimon. They are powerful, but taking down Devimon is not a guarantee. And who knows what kind of power boost Devimon is getting from Stane's hatred?
Damn it, I'm screwed.
Wait.
A glimmer of hope flickers in my mind. I remember something. Something I got just a few minutes ago. Something that might just be crazy enough to work.
The Angemon Digi-Memory.
It's a long shot, but it's the only chance we have.
I scramble for my Digivice, my fingers fumbling with the controls. I open the Digi-Memory app, my heart pounding in my chest. I select the Angemon Digi-Memory, my hand trembling.
"Please, work," I mutter under my breath.
With a deep breath, I activate the Digi-Memory.
"Digi-Memory! Come, Angemon!"
A surge of energy courses through me, through the Digivice. A blinding light erupts from the device, filling the rooftop. I squeeze my eyes shut, bracing myself for whatever is about to happen.
As the light fades, I slowly open my eyes. A figure stands before me, radiating power and grace.
Angemon.
He is clad in robes of pure white and deep blue, flowing around him like liquid moonlight. Six magnificent wings, each feather shimmering with an ethereal glow, sprout from his back, arranged in perfect symmetry. A silver helm, emblazoned with a gleaming cross, covers his face, obscuring his features but somehow amplifying his aura of serene authority. Long, golden hair cascades from beneath the helmet, framing his face with a halo of light. A blue loincloth hangs before him, accented by matching straps on his arm and leg.
He is a beacon of hope, a symbol of light in the encroaching darkness. And right now, he's our only chance.
Devimon takes a step back, a flicker of something akin to surprise—or maybe annoyance—crossing his face. He knows what a Digi-Memory is, and he knows this Angemon is just a temporary construct, a pale imitation of the real deal. Still, the sudden appearance of a celestial being seems to have given him pause.
"Impressive," he says, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "But don't think this parlor trick will save you. This is nothing but a distraction, a temporary inconvenience."
His crimson eyes lock onto me, a predatory glint in their depths. "I'll deal with you first."
