One of the biggest thematic lines in AOT "Because I was born into this world." You'll find it come up a lot, this idea of a universal "birthright" to your life and to the world, to be free to experience its wonders. The author (Isayama Hajime) grew up in a small town (Oyama) that's in the shadow of a dam and surrounded by mountains. As a child he dreamed of seeing the world he only knew from TV. He felt caged and trapped, and could never understand how others had no desire to travel and see the world.
