PRODUCER MASTERCLASS - Timer Beats / Time Batching
🕑 Added 2023-11-09 01:35:29 +0000 UTCalright so when i recorded this video earlier i made two beats and the mic wasn't working SO i re-did it a little more warmed up.
the concept here is TIMER BEATS / time batching. you're going to spend as much time as your brain allows yourself to spend on one task - and that can mean less efficiency. so here, we're going to try to put ourselves under extremely short deadlines - 5 minutes per "interval" and force ourselves to make a record in 40 minutes.
this technique works like a gym workout...you'll see where your shortcomings are as a producer, your inefficiencies, and what you need work on. the positive of this is, you'll end up making a ton of "okay" ideas, but it's gonna be real easy to take that "okay" idea to a great idea. the best ideas will rise to the top with this technique - do a day or two of this, try different structures/recipes, and make a ton of sketches. then go back a week later, listen to them all and your brain will know what to do with them hopefully...and if not, scrap for parts or try again.
this is how you can effectively get 4-6 ideas down in a day!
here's some recipes:
5 min intervals
1. sample chop, variations
2. write chords
3. melody for breakdown
4. sound explore/selection
5. drop concept/pattern/idea
6. drop drums
7. sound exploration for drop
8. patch up and finalize
5 min timer recipe
1. chop sample
2. add drums
3. 4 variations of sample
4. chords
5. find melody / riff
6. riff variations
7. sample jam
8. arrange
9. automate and detail
10. final check
feel free to share your own / discuss. obviously on retrospect the idea wasn't A+...but i already hear a direction for it and might work on it more tonight! the idea here is to be under such a tight timeline, it's all just reaction/instinct...no time for thinking.
as always, comments/feedback/thoughts welcome.
