Although their family wasn't extremely wealthy when they went to the capital, they could manage their living expenses without any issues. However, Tang Wenqian's father refused to go and wanted to return to Dong'an Prefecture with his wife.
Tang Wenqian's mother's emotional state was still unstable, and if she went to the capital, she would undoubtedly meddle in their marital affairs. Tang Wenqian's father only allowed Tang Wenqian to take Jiang Shi to the capital, as he would find it easier to handle things with her by his side.
So, Tang Wenqian's father and mother returned to Dong'an Prefecture, while Tang Wenqian and Jiang Shi went to the capital.
During this year's Spring Festival, when Shu Yu and her family visited the home of their elder uncle in Shishi Village, they also met with Tang Wenqian's parents.
Tang Wenqian's mother had lost some weight and had become more reserved.
Shu Yu didn't inquire much about the Tang family's situation, but Liang Shi had asked around.
It was said that Tang Wenqian's mother rarely left the house and socialized with people anymore. On the other hand, his father, who had not been particularly noticeable before, was now more active in the village.
Tang Wenqian's mother was afraid of being ridiculed. When Tang Wenqian held an official position, she was quite prominent. There were visitors constantly coming to congratulate her, and she was very proud for a few days. However, she left Shishi Village without returning for several years, surrounded by the envy of others.
Now that her son had resigned from his position, and the couple returned to the village, she knew they would face a fair amount of ridicule.
However, the reality was not as bad as Tang Wenqian's mother had imagined. As soon as they returned, his father explained the situation to the village head Fan.
For the curious villagers who wondered why they had returned, Village Head Fan also helped explain the circumstances. Shishi Village had changed significantly over the years. Many villagers were involved in growing sunflowers with Shu Yu or working in the workshop. With their increased knowledge and exposure, they no longer fixated on just the local farmland.
They even admired Tang Wenqian for his determination. While becoming a county magistrate as a Jinshi (successful scholar) was impressive, Tang Wenqian had reached a step that all scholars aspired to. He dared to resign from his official position to re-enter the imperial court based on his own knowledge, showing great courage.
Moreover, with Meng Yunzheng having set an example of resigning from an official position to return to the village, the villagers were already accepting of such decisions.
Except for a few people who had never gotten along with Tang Wenqian's mother and said a few sour words behind her back, the villagers in Shishi Village were quite friendly towards them.
After Tang Wenqian's father returned, many villagers who were sending their children to study came to befriend him and asked how he had educated Tang Wenqian. In their eyes, Tang Wenqian was still the rare child prodigy of Shishi Village.
Shu Yu didn't know how Tang Wenqian was doing at the capital University, but she knew that Tang Wenqian's parents were living relatively comfortably in Shishi Village.
Since they weren't very familiar with the current county magistrate of Chenggu County, they didn't visit the county office. After spending a day at Meng's Escort Agency, they left early the next morning and headed back to Changjin Prefecture.
Subsequently, the convoy set out once more, this time toward the capital.
This time, however, one-third of the people in the convoy, who had come to Changjin Prefecture to deliver goods, didn't need to go to the capital. They headed directly back to Dong'an Prefecture.
Changjin Prefecture was much closer to the capital, and the group increased their pace. When they arrived at the gates of the capital, they still had half a month left before the lecture sessions at the Jingyan Academy began.
Nevertheless, even with this much time left, the capital was already filled with scholars and students from all over the country. As they looked ahead, a majority of the people were wearing scholarly long robes, and discussions about the upcoming lecture sessions filled the air.
Luckily, they had arranged accommodations in advance, or else they might have struggled to find a place to rest with so many people around.
