The sound of the brawl at the escort agency naturally attracted others, with the patrolling soldiers arriving first.
Yuangui was hiding in a corner, hearing the soldiers mention that the person being attacked by the bandits and injured was the head of the Meng Family Escort Agency. The head of the Meng family and the bandits kept fighting and soon moved away from the agency.
The soldiers chased after them, and Yuangui hesitated for a moment before following.
His speed was faster, although he wasn't familiar with Chenggu County, he was sensitive to the sounds of the fight. He quickly headed toward the source of the noise.
"Later on, I tracked them to this abandoned courtyard."
Meng Qi got excited. They had come out to find his father and uncle. Now, hearing about his father's whereabouts from Yuangui, he hurriedly asked, "So, you saw my father entering this courtyard. Do you know where my father ended up? Is he alright?"
Yuangui was taken aback, "Your father?"
"Just now, you mentioned the head of the Meng Family Escort Agency."
Yuangui widened his eyes, "You're the young master of the Meng Family Escort Agency?"
Meng Qi nodded repeatedly, "Yes, we came out to find my father."
Yuangui pursed his lips, hesitating before saying, "When I entered, I only saw the head of the Meng family lying on the ground and being carried away by the bandits. As for whether he's alright, I'm not sure."
Seeing Meng Qi's pale face, he quickly added, "But I think he's probably fine. If something really happened to the head of the Meng family, there wouldn't be a need for the bandits to carry him away, right?"
Meng Qi thought about it and agreed, "Then did you see where they took my father?"
Yuan Gui nodded, "They carried him into a room, and there seems to be a secret passage in that room. Once they went in, they never came out."
"Where is the room?"
Struggling to stand, Yuangui said, "I'll take you there."
Since he was injured, Meng Yunzheng simply lifted him up and said, "Just show us."
"Alright."
Yuangui pointed to the left while lying on his back, "Over there, there's a secluded courtyard. The second room in that courtyard."
The group hastened their pace and headed in the direction Yuangui indicated.
As they walked, Meng Yunzheng asked, "Apart from the head of the Meng family, did you see anyone else enter later? A man in his forties, about my height?"
He described Meng Pei's appearance, and Yuangui furrowed his brow but shook his head, saying, "No, when I saw them carrying the head of the Meng family into that room, I was considering whether to follow. But then I thought there were too many of them, and I was powerless alone. It was better to report to the officials. So, I planned to leave the courtyard. Unexpectedly, when I came this way, a few bandits came over. I quickly hid in the abandoned building earlier, intending to wait until the bandits left before coming out."
"Little did I know that by hiding, I stayed here for two days and nights. Those bandits remained nearby. If I went out, I would definitely attract their attention. So, for these two days, my range was limited, and I don't know if anyone else entered this mansion."
He felt sorry for not being able to help more.
Meng Yunzheng pressed his lips together and didn't say much, but his footsteps involuntarily quickened.
The group soon arrived at the secluded courtyard Yuangui mentioned, and there didn't seem to be many people around.
It wasn't clear if Yuangui's earlier fight drew the remaining bandits guarding the courtyard away or if there were simply no guards nearby.
