Meng Yunzheng narrowed his eyes, "Help."
Shu Yu immediately raised her wrist and aimed the hidden arrow at one of the attackers.
"Phew," the arrow flew, this time directed at the man's neck, and he fell with a muffled cry.
The remaining two were stunned, turning back in shock, but one of them was taken down by Meng Yunzheng.
The other one confronted Meng Qi briefly, but witnessing his companion's death, he decided not to linger and immediately tried to run out of the abandoned house. However, Shu Yu was standing at the doorway, and she raised her wrist again, firing another arrow.
Within a few breaths, the three attackers who had seemed to have the upper hand were all lying on the ground.
Meng Yunzheng inspected them and confirmed that they were all dead. Upon examining their belongings, he found the same kind of knife as the previous man.
Indeed, these men were bandits too.
After collecting their weapons, Meng Yunzheng approached the man who was gasping heavily on the ground, "How are you?"
The man struggled to catch his breath, half-leaning against the wall as he tried to sit up. His face was covered in sweat.
"Thank you for saving my life."
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
The man wiped away some blood smearing his eyes and looked at them, "I am..."
He was about to introduce himself, but when he saw Shu Yu, he hesitated, "Lu Xiangjun?"
Shu Yu was taken aback, "You know me?"
"You are really Lu Xiangjun! How did you end up here? Is it, is it that reinforcements from Dong'an Prefecture have arrived?" The man spoke with excitement, trying to stand up, but his legs felt weak, and he soon sat back down.
Hearing him mention Dong'an Prefecture and reinforcements, Shu Yu asked with suspicion, "Are you... an official from Dong'an Prefecture?"
The man shook his head directly, "No, I'm not an official, but I am indeed from Dong'an Prefecture. I used to escort goods to Jiangyuan County and saw you once on the street. I didn't expect to meet you here."
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng exchanged glances. Escort goods?
"You are a guard from Dong'an Prefecture's city?" Shu Yu asked.
The man nodded, seemingly happy to see someone familiar. A faint smile appeared on his cracked lips, and blood seeped out, staining them with a bright red hue.
He didn't mind and said, "Indeed, I am a guard from Dong'an Prefecture. My name is Yuangui."
Shu Yu was stunned, "You said your name is what?"
Yuangui was puzzled by her reaction and became a bit wary. His voice lowered, "Yuan... Gui."
Suddenly, Shu Yu burst into laughter. It was indeed him! He really didn't die, and he had appeared in Chenggu County, just like Jiang Kuangyu.
Taking a deep breath to compose herself, she confirmed, "Your name is Yuan Gui, a guard from Dong'an Prefecture's Jianghe Escort Bureau? Last year, you escorted the Jiang family back to their hometown in the north and fell off a cliff near Changjin Prefecture?"
Yuanqui widened his eyes, "How do you know?" Then, he realized, "Ah, it seems my story has spread even to the city, and Lu Xiangjun knows about it."
"No, your story didn't spread. Jianghe Escort Bureau wanted to use the Jiang family escort incident to gain fame and attract more business, so they suppressed your story from the beginning. Later, your neighbors sensed something was amiss, and they claimed you had an accident while escorting another shipment."
