Shu Yu and the others discreetly observed their surroundings. Although this place was described as a secret room, it was actually a large underground palace.
The grandeur of the interior and its depth were beyond imagination. Looking into the distance, one couldn't even discern where it ended.
As for their arrival, others merely glanced at them before going about their own business.
A group of people were drinking, gambling, and playing dice on the side. Beautiful young women were serving them, creating a lively scene.
The nearby bandit whispered, "This area is the outskirts, where we, the people here, relax and enjoy ourselves. Going further in is where guests who come to the black market for entertainment usually gather. However, since the black market is closed now, there are no guests. That section is reserved for the new brothers who recently gathered here. These days, these people are following the leader to cause trouble in the neighboring county, so that area is empty."
So, there weren't many people here.
"As for the Jiang Kuanyu you mentioned, he's a manager. You need to go further inside to find his residence."
Meng Yunzheng nodded. "Take us there."
The bandit opened his mouth, thinking that bringing them here would be enough, but he didn't expect these two were going to milk him for more information.
He coldly snorted inwardly, planning that once he got the antidote, he would lead his brothers to kill this couple.
Wait, no, torture the man to death and as for the woman, she had some looks; she could be kept here in the black market to entertain the guests.
Thinking these dark thoughts, the bandit got kicked on the leg. "Lead the way already."
"Got it."
The three of them moved through the outskirts where stationed bandits weren't many.
Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu were lucky; they had arrived when a large group of bandits were headed to the neighboring county.
They soon reached the heart of the black market, a place for entertaining guests, much larger and deeper than the outskirts.
And seemingly, each area was different – there were gambling dens, brothels, trading spots, and... a dueling arena.
Shu Yu even heard the roars of wild beasts. The bandit mentioned this with some pride, "We've got tigers, wolves, bears, giant pythons locked up here. When the dueling arena starts, two people are brought up to confront them. The winner gets money, the loser is left with their life, and they'll be devoured by the beasts. The most exciting part is when women confront those beasts. Hmph, it's quite a sight to watch them trembling on stage, being torn apart. Only the high-ranking officials are willing to spend money recklessly..."
"That's enough." Shu Yu frowned, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
The bandit rolled his eyes. Women were truly timid. Little did she know that the dueling arena in the black market was the liveliest and most popular place.
Meng Yunzheng's expression darkened. "Lead the way."
The bandit had no choice but to continue forward. However, not long after they walked, Shu Yu suddenly heard cries of pain coming from the left.
"What's that over there?"
The bandit glanced in the direction she was pointing, his gaze somewhat distant. "Aren't you here to rescue someone? Why bother about those things?"
"I'm asking you."
The bandit lazily replied, "People are kept there – rich young masters abducted from Chenggu County, along with some traitors and disobedient girls."
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng exchanged a glance. So many people were locked up?
"Let's go over and take a look." Meng Yunzheng signaled to the bandit.
The latter frowned. "Don't meddle in things that don't concern you. Just save the person and leave quickly, or else..."
