Meng Yunzheng saw that Meng Han had plans to leave, so he didn't say much.
After all, Meng Han was a young girl, and even though she followed the escort bureau, they were still concerned about her being alone.
With Meng Pei around, Meng Han felt relieved.
However...
Meng Yunzheng turned back and exchanged a serious look with Shu Yu, who was standing behind him.
Shu Yu walked forward and came to Meng Han's side, pulling her back to the room.
"Let's go, I'll help you pack. Your grandma has prepared many local specialties for you to take back. I'll bring them tomorrow for you to take with you."
"Okay." Meng Han obediently let her lead her into the room.
Once they left, Meng Yunzheng lowered his voice and said, "Dad, let's talk inside."
He had Xia Yan stay at the door while he discussed the current situation in Changjin Prefecture with Meng Pei.
Since Gongqiu was beheaded, Meng Yunzheng had no intention of getting involved in the court's power struggles, and as for Meng Pei, it was even less of an option. Now that he had proper work, his son had achieved scholarly success and got engaged, and he had also reunited with his brother, the court's affairs were too distant for him.
Even during the Emperor's feigned illness, Meng Yunzheng had only informed Meng Pei without involving him.
Thus, Meng Pei was unaware of the situation in Changjin Prefecture.
But this time, as he was returning to the old Meng family, who knew what kind of troubles he might encounter, so Meng Yunzheng reminded him.
Meng Pei was taken aback after hearing the situation and sighed deeply. "I understand. I'll be careful. If brother comes back from his long journey, I want to bring them all over to avoid any problems."
Meng Yunzheng felt helpless. "How do we avoid it? Uncle's family has significant assets, and our family's escort bureau is still operating there, with many escorts relying on it for a living. Moreover, we don't know when the chaos in Changjin Prefecture will erupt. Maybe it'll happen in two months, half a year, or even one or two years from now. Who can say for sure?"
Even if they managed to find an excuse to bring Uncle's family over, they couldn't possibly stay here for a year or more.
Meng Pei was anxious, "Then what should we do?"
"For now, we can only plan for a way out. If something happens, we'll be prepared and have a safe place to retreat to in advance."
Meng Pei thought it over and realized that he could only make plans after going to Changjin Prefecture.
Meng Yunzheng had not been with the Meng family for long, so apart from avoiding suspicion, he hadn't properly familiarized himself with the layout of the escort bureau. He didn't even know who the people in the bureau were and how to arrange things if something went wrong. He could only talk without any substantial details.
They decided on this plan for now, and Meng Yunzheng sent Meng Han to see grandmother Lu the next day. Meng Pei then began to arrange the travel details, while Meng Yunzheng sought out Zhao Xi, obtained some medicine, and handed it to Meng Han.
When Meng Han saw the words "sedative" and "poison" written on the medicine package, her heart trembled, and she looked at Meng Yunzheng with a puzzled expression. "Cousin, why are you giving me these?"
Meng Yunzheng calmly replied, "They're for self-defense."
Self-defense?
But holding these medicines made her feel like something big and dangerous was about to happen.
Meng Han felt that she didn't need them. "Cousin, I have good skills, and I can handle ordinary thugs. Even if I can't defeat them, I can still escape."
