Meng Han didn't listen and held on tightly to Shu Yu's arm.
"Sister Ah Yu, I never thought I would see you again. You really came! Am I dreaming? Sob..."
"It's definitely not a dream. We rushed here day and night. How are you? Are you alright?" Shu Yu asked.
Meng Yunzheng stood beside the two, but upon not seeing Meng Pei and Meng Xiaoshu, a slight worry crossed his face, and a bad premonition flashed in his mind.
When Meng Qi approached, he asked, "Where's my father?"
Meng Qi's steps suddenly stopped, and the others looked sorrowful.
Seeing the situation, Shu Yu furrowed her brow and before she could ask further, Meng Han in her arms blurted out, "Brother, Uncle and my father, they are in trouble. They're missing."
"What do you mean by 'missing'?" Shu Yu released her and asked anxiously.
Gao Shu intervened, "This isn't the place to talk. Let's discuss inside the secret room."
Meng Yunzheng nodded and called Xia Yan and Ying Xi, then the group returned to the secret room.
The entrance to the secret passage was carefully closed again.
Shu Yu observed the secret room. While she didn't notice it outside, she realized it was quite crowded when standing inside.
The room was filled not only with guards from the escort agency but also with their family members.
Taking into account that some guards might be out on escort missions, there were probably around seven or eight guards present.
With their family members and a few servants from the Meng family, there were nearly forty people in total.
Fortunately, the secret room was spacious, and judging from the signs, Meng Pei probably expanded it after he arrived. There was fresh soil in one corner.
Even so, with so many people together, it was still quite cramped, and the air felt stifling.
Now, it was already November, and while the weather outside was cold, the secret room was surprisingly hot. Upon entering, one felt like they were about to break into a sweat.
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng sat on a small stool on the side, and Meng Qi poured them all a glass of water.
To be honest, they were very thirsty as they hadn't had anything to drink except for a little water while rushing here.
While Shu Yu was drinking, Meng Han explained the situation from these past few days.
The bandits broke into Chenggu County and started causing trouble twelve days ago. Many families suffered losses, including their escort agency.
The bandits invaded, burning, killing, and looting without any particular target, causing chaos everywhere.
Meng Han was the one who killed the first bandit who entered their place.
That evening, she had just quarreled with Tao Shi, feeling upset, and couldn't sleep well at night. She kept thinking about her carefree life back in Jiangyuan County. Since her father had returned, she planned to secretly follow him when her uncle went back to Jiangyuan County.
At that time, Meng Han was still unaware that chaos might occur in Changjin Prefecture, so she was a bit stunned when the first bandit jumped down from the wall. But that bandit was also stunned for a moment before he quickly approached Meng Han with his knife.
Meng Han instinctively dodged and drew the dagger she carried with her, striking back. Before the bandit could react, he lost his life.
Meng Han was dumbfounded; she had never killed anyone before. By the time she realized it, her scream had already awakened the others in the escort agency.
As a result, when the other bandits broke in, the people in the Meng family had already awakened and picked up their weapons to defend themselves.
