The leading official had an emotionless expression as he spoke, "We are Prefect government officials from the prefectural City. Qian Fangli, you are suspected of instructing others to steal, spreading false rumors, and committing great disrespect. We are here on orders from the Prefect Magistrate to take you to the prefectural yamen. Please come with us."
Qian Fangli's face turned pale. "Government officials from the prefectural yamen?"
"Yes, come with us!"
Feeling uneasy, Qian Fangli took a couple of steps back, "I don't know what you're talking about. All this talk about instructing others to steal and spreading false rumors is baseless. I want to see Magistrate Peng. I want to see Magistrate Peng."
"Magistrate Peng has been suspected of dereliction of duty and will also go to the prefectural yamen to explain."
Qian Fangli felt a wave of darkness in front of him. Even Magistrate Peng was in trouble?
The two officials didn't intend to wait for him to digest the information; they simply grabbed him and took him away.
Qian Fangli struggled, but the officials tightened their grip on his hand. "Qian Fangli, I advise you to cooperate. If you say you are innocent, you can explain it at the yamen. If you openly resist arrest, your crime will be compounded."
Upon hearing this, Qian Fangli stopped struggling. He had no choice but to be led away dejectedly by the two officials.
The steward was in a panic and went to find other masters.
Qian Fangli encountered Magistrate Peng at the city gate. Seeing Magistrate Peng's stern expression, he realized that he had been implicated Magistrate Peng. Without a word, Magistrate Peng dropped the curtain of his carriage and sat back inside.
Qian Fangli noticed another carriage following behind, seemingly carrying other people.
Amid their mixed and anxious thoughts, they arrived at the prefectural yamen.
Prefect Magistrate Fei had already started the trial. As soon as Qian Fangli got off the carriage, he was pushed into the main hall.
The hall was filled with people. Apart from Prefect Magistrate Fei seated at the top, Magistrate Xie and Shu Yu were also present at the lower end.
This was the first time Shu Yu had met Qian Fangli, even though they already had two episodes of enmity.
She smiled slightly and nodded towards Qian Fangli.
His body trembled involuntarily as he felt a chill run down his spine upon seeing her smile. It made him shiver all over.
A loud bang interrupted his thoughts, and Qian Fangli knelt down. He listened in fear as Prefect Magistrate Fei questioned him from above.
"... Zhang Qing has confessed that you bribed him to steal sunflower seeds from Shishi Village and planted them yourself. Shortly after that, you renovated the original tea workshop into an oil pressing workshop, and there have been rumors that you are going produce sunflower oil used in the palace. Qian Fangli, you have a lot of nerve, who allowed you to spread false rumors and gain momentum for yourself in the name of the imperial palace?"
Qian Fangli's mind went blank; indeed, he admitted that he bribed Zhang Qing and renovated the workshop.
However, he had no knowledge of any rumors about producing palace sunflower oil. It was all a complete mystery to him.
He immediately shouted his innocence, vehemently denying the accusations.
Prefect Magistrate Fei ordered witnesses to be brought in. Shortly after, Zhang Qing arrived, followed by the Liang couple, the craftsmen who repaired Qian Fangli's workshop, and a few residents from Donggu County.
It was then that Qian Fangli realized the people in the carriage behind him were residents of the county.
Listening to the testimonies of the witnesses, he felt his head buzzing.
He looked up and met Shu Yu's still calm and smiling face.
