Wei Ronghua sent someone to inquire about the shop and indeed received some information. It was said that the shop's event not only resulted in losses but also earned them a lot of complaints. That evening, the shopkeeper was berated by the boss and faced quite a miserable situation.
Shu Yu just smiled when she heard this; after all, organizing an event was not an easy task. Choosing prizes that wouldn't incur losses, were valuable, and satisfied everyone was enough to make her pull out half of her hair.
Luckily, the people around her were young and full of ideas. With everyone brainstorming, they managed to come up with enough solutions to save the other half of her hair.
As the Luji store stabilized its development after nearly a week, Shu Yu decided to return to the county town.
After leaving the city, she first went to see the Xiao shi. Xiao Shi once again asked about the situation in the capital, and Shu Yu could only reply, "The capital sent a letter back, and everything is fine. However, Xiang Weinan hasn't sent any messages. He's currently under close watch by the Xiao family, so he can't contact us too much to avoid exposing you."
Xiao Shi became anxious, "Why would he be monitored by the Xiao family when he's fine?"
"Don't worry, the Xiao family just wants to win him over. With you as a bridge before, they thought that Xiang family naturally belonged to their side. Now that you've 'passed away,' the Xiao family doesn't want to give up this connection, so they'll keep a close eye on him."
Xiao Shi felt somewhat relieved, "Will he be in danger?"
"You know Xiang Weinan's capabilities, and he's not alone in the capital. So, rest assured."
After chatting for a while, Shu Yu left Xiao Shi's place and returned home. It was almost dusk.
The old lady wasn't home; Shu You said she had gone back to Shishi Village early in the morning. Wedding preparations were complicated, and although Li Shi had already married off a daughter, things were different back then. The Lu family was not well-off, and many customs were omitted.
Now that Lan Hua was getting married, the Lu family was in a different situation, and all the necessary customs had to be followed. The old lady knew all the customs due to her age, so she went back early to help.
As for Shu Yu and Shu You, they would go there tomorrow morning.
Shu You said to Shu Yu, "I won't be able to attend Lan Hua's wedding due to my pregnancy, so please deliver her dowry on my behalf."
Shu You was pregnant, and according to the custom, pregnant women couldn't attend weddings. Shu Yu didn't think much of these old customs since many modern brides get married while pregnant. However, others did not share the same view, especially Li Shi, who had brought up the matter before.
Though Shu You regretted not being able to attend her cousin's wedding, she was about to give birth soon, and it wouldn't be safe to be in such a crowded place.
On the morning of the sixth day, it was the day to send the bridal dowry.
The bride's family would carry the dowry to the groom's house the day before the wedding and show it off along the way.
So, early in the morning, Shu Yu returned to Shishi Village with her family.
Li Shi had prepared everything grandly, and as the carriage arrived at the village entrance, they could already hear the cheerful voices of children.
"Let's eat the wedding candies and cakes. Lan Hua's wedding candies and cakes are delicious!"
When the carriage arrived at the entrance of the Lu family's main house, it was so crowded that there was no space to move.
