Shu Yu's hand paused, and a look of joy flashed in her eyes. She wanted to ask urgently what was going on, what the plan was, and whether Hao Dingshan had returned to capital. But it wasn't the right time with so many guests coming and going outside.
The middle-aged scholar knew what she was thinking and didn't say much. He immediately congratulated loudly after those words.
Shu Yu smiled and thanked him, "Thank you for your concern, Sir. Please have a cup of tea inside."
The middle-aged scholar declined, "No, I still have some matters to attend to. I'll take my leave."
Shu Yu saw him off at the door, and when she returned, she appeared visibly more relaxed and at ease.
There were even more people in the store now, not just ordinary folks, but many wealthy households who came to buy sunflower oil. Everyone was surprised by the crowd inside the store.
"It hasn't been open for long, how come there are so many people?" Shu Yu greeted the guests at the door for a while before going back inside the shop.
As soon as she entered, she noticed that Madam Tan, who should have been resting in the backyard, had come out and was leaning against the lottery table, watching everyone take turns drawing lots with great curiosity.
When Shu Yu approached, Madam Tan was speaking to her maidservant, "It seems there are three prizes. I wonder what the first prize is."
Shu Yu stopped beside her and smiled, "Are you interested, Madam Tan?"
Madam Tan turned to her, "Of course, your approach is so innovative and sensational that even I'm tempted. Moreover, the prizes are not just perfunctory; even a consolation prize would be good."
Shu Yu was helpless, "But what I really want is for everyone to truly like the sunflower seeds and oil."
Madam Tan chuckled, "You're greedy. Don't people have to buy something before the draw? Once they buy it, they won't leave it untouched. Whether it's the sunflower seeds, the oil, or even your instant noodles, they are all novel and delicious. Once the excitement of the draw dies down, the reputation of these three items will also be established."
Shu Yu knew this very well, so she wasn't worried that the current prizes were more attractive than the sunflower seeds and oil.
There's nothing to be done; people are always more curious about the unknown.
Shu Yu asked Madam Tan, "Would you like to try drawing once?"
Madam Tan thought about it. Although she knew she had to maintain her image as a wealthy lady, the draw was just too enticing. Especially when she saw many other ladies and young women standing on the side, eager to try.
"Alright, then I'll buy some sunflower oil and give it a try."
"You don't need to buy it..."
"That won't do," Madam Tan said seriously, "I can't break the rules."
Before Shu Yu could refuse, she directly sent her maidservant to place the order and get the wooden plaque.
Shu Yu smiled and didn't stop her. After all, she had prepared gifts for every friend who gave her a present. She would see what Madam Tan was interested in and give her an additional gift.
There were more people buying sunflower seeds, so it take long for the maidservant to return with the wooden plaque and join the queue for the draw.
The draw itself was slow because of the large number of people. Although only one person had won the fifth and fourth prizes so far, it didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd.
Madam Tan watched the line moving not far away and began to rub her hands, her tone slightly nervous, "I'm not very lucky. I'm not expecting to win the first prize or anything, the fourth prize will do."
Shu Yu chuckled, just about to say something, when suddenly, cheers erupted from the direction of the draw table.
