Shu Yu smiled as she walked to the side to open the letter, listening to the sound of the old lady cooing to Zao Zao. She began reading the letter.
The letter was from Fang Xiyue. Although it had been nearly a year and a half since Shu Yu returned from exile, they had kept in touch. However, due to the long distance and their status as exiles, communication through letters was not very convenient, so they only exchanged a few letters during this time.
Shu Yu thought this letter would be the usual greetings, talking about their current situations.
However, the first sentence of the letter surprised her.
Seeing her engrossed in reading, Shu You's smile grew wider, and she couldn't help asking, "What does the letter say? Why do you look so happy?"
Shu Yu looked up and said, "Fang Xiyue got married."
Shu You was delighted, "Really?"
Grandma Lu also heard the news and hurriedly looked over, "She got married? That's right, Xiyue is a month older than you and already sixteen. It's about time she got married. Who did she marry? How old is the groom?"
She bombarded Shu Yu with questions, making her unsure of which one to answer first.
The old lady became anxious, "Hurry up and tell me."
"It's someone we know, Ma Lu." He was the captain of the Third team who teamed up with Shu Yu to hunt and killed a tiger.
Grandma Lu had a good impression of Ma Lu, "Ma Lu is good. He's capable and level-headed, not involved in any trouble. Xiyue will be in good hands with him."
Shu Yu added, "And more than that, Ma Lu is now working with Cheng Xian, who is one of Minister Cheng's trusted subordinates."
The old lady was genuinely surprised, "He's working under Master Cheng? That means he has a promising future."
Shu Yu didn't expect this development either. She didn't know how Ma Lu established a connection with Cheng Xian. Cheng Xian was a trusted subordinate of Prefecture magistrate Cheng. If Ma Lu performed well under him, he would surely have a bright future.
Moreover, when Ma Lu killed the tiger before, he had already shown himself to Prefect Cheng.
Grandma Lu heard Shu Yu stop speaking and hurriedly asked, "What else did the letter say? When did they get married?"
Shu Yu glanced at the letter, "This letter was sent two months ago, shortly after they got married, two or three days to be exact."
It was already mid-June. Grandma Lu said, "We didn't know about it before, but now that we do, we should prepare some gifts when we reply and congratulate them."
"I'll take care of preparing the gifts. I'll go to the storage room to check."
After saying that, Shu Yu folded the letter and left.
Grandma Lu was a little dazed. She called out from behind, "There's no need to be in such a hurry. It's already late at night. Really, what else did the letter say? You left before finishing it."
Shu You silently took a sip of water. She had been sitting next to Shu Yu and saw a bit of the letter. There was still a lot of content behind the letter, and she faintly saw... the Shu family.
So she thought that the rest of the letter should be about the Shu family.
Shu Yu didn't want Grandma Lu to worry, so she found an excuse to leave and read it later.
At this moment, Shu Yu had returned to Yu courtyard. She had only skimmed the letter earlier and hadn't read it in detail. Now she sat down and continued reading the rest of the content.
Regarding Ma Lu, apart from marrying Fang Xiyue, he also subtly hinted at some information.
He joined Prefect Cheng for a reason other than just getting married.
