From Wu Fengyuan, Shu Yu learned the story of Hu Geng. After he followed his mother to Donggu County, she passed away not long after, and he coincidentally met Wei Ronghua, who became his mentor.
Wei Ronghua took him as an assistant at Hong Xiang gou, but Hu Geng had a somewhat impulsive temper. He had a conflict with the new shop owner and was dismissed.
So the two assistants in the shop now were hired recently, which explained why they weren't close to Wei Ronghua.
With no job at the shop, Hu Geng started doing some labor work. He was strong and capable, so he didn't have to worry about finding something to do.
After learning about his background, Wu Fengyuan sent someone to find him, but Hu Geng refused. His reason was simple: the horse stable was outside the city, and he couldn't come back every day. He didn't want to leave his mentor unprotected, fearing that something might happen to him while he was away.
Wu Fengyuan didn't push him, but coincidentally, on his way back yesterday, Hu Geng rescued him when his horse was startled.
Wu Fengyuan became determined to bring him to the horse stable, and that's why he had come to find Wei Ronghua today, hoping he could persuade Hu Geng. However, he witnessed the trouble Wei Ronghua encountered.
"So, it was you who informed them to come to Hong Xiang gou so quickly?" Shu Yu asked, realizing the situation.
"Yes, originally, if you didn't show up, I was planning to step in," Wu Fengyuan replied with a smile.
Now it seemed they both benefited from the situation.
Wu Fengyuan continued, "After Hu Geng learned that Wei Ronghua was settled, he readily agreed."
Shu Yu chuckled, realizing that when she asked Wei Ronghua to hire another assistant, it was because she wanted to leave a spot for Hu Geng.
She had thought Wei Ronghua might take his apprentice with him, but now it seemed unnecessary.
Wu Fengyuan wasn't just happy to have found a suitable person; he was also pleased because this person was Wei Ronghua's apprentice. Presently, Wei Ronghua was valued by Lu Xiangjun.
Wu Fengyuan was well aware of the backing behind Lu Xiangjun, and he had his own personal interests, so getting along well with her wouldn't harm his own prospects.
Afterward, Shu Yu and Wu Fengyuan parted ways at the inn. She then returned to Jiangyuan County with Ying Xi in the evening.
When she arrived home, it was already dusk. As usual, she first went to see the old lady in her courtyard.
As she approached, she heard the giggles of a little girl coming from inside.
Her lips curled up in a smile, and upon entering, she saw Grandma Lu and Shu You playing with the spirited little girl.
Shu You didn't dare to get too close to her, as she was already nearly nine months pregnant, and her body was quite cumbersome.
When Grandma Lu saw Shu Yu, she handed the little girl to Hua Xian.
In an instant, the little girl was startled and tried to reach out for Grandma Lu again.
However, the old lady went straight into the inner room without responding to her.
The little girl looked a bit upset, pouting as if she was about to cry.
Shu Yu stood in front of her and diverted her attention. The little girl seemed startled for a moment but then smiled again.
Grandma Lu came out at this moment, holding a letter in her hand.
"Here, it's for you."
Shu Yu was puzzled, "Who sent it?"
"It's from Linzhang Prefecture," Grandma Lu pushed her lightly. "Go and read it over there. Don't let Zao Zao pull you. She's very strong now."
