The group looked puzzled, but in the next moment, Zhao Xi took out a string of firecrackers from behind and laid them in a row at the entrance. He then lit them up with a firecracker stick.
The firecrackers crackled, and Zhao Xi's voice sounded triumphant, "Congratulations to Meng Yunzheng for achieving the Top Rank, obtaining the title of Xiu Cai. A joyous occasion indeed, congratulations, congratulations!"
Meng Yunzheng's composed expression couldn't hold any longer, and his face cracked a bit.
At this moment, several people came out into the courtyard. Most of them were servants as they returned home suddenly. Besides them, only the old lady and Cui Hua and Lan Hua were present.
Shu Yu didn't see Shu You, presumably because she was heavily pregnant and not in the mood for the celebration.
The old lady was delighted to see them and first assessed Shu Yu before taking Meng Yunzheng's hand and said, "It's great that you're back. We received news of your exam results early, and we've been wanting to celebrate with you. You must have worked hard during the exams. Come in quickly."
Meng Yunzheng adjusted his expression and smiled, saying, "Not hard at all."
Then he supported the old lady's hand and entered the house together.
Shu Yu followed behind, looking at Cui Hua and Lan Hua, and asked, "What's happening at home? Why did you both come together with Grandma ?"
Cui Hua smiled and glanced at the bashful Lan Hua, "Nothing happened; it's just that Lan Hua's wedding is approaching, and there are some things to prepare, so we came to grandmother for advice."
Shu Yu almost forgot; Lan Hua would be getting married next month.
They were betrothed at the end of last year. They initially planned to have the wedding in the first half of this year, but because of the Emperor's passing, Shu Yu advised them to postpone it to the latter half of the year.
She had been so busy lately that she didn't even think about it.
Shu Yu smiled and looked at Lan Hua, "It won't be long before Lan Hua becomes someone else's bride."
Lan Hua blushed and said, "What about you? Now that Young Master Meng has achieved a high ranking and has a title, do you still want to wait two more years for the wedding?"
Hearing this, Cui Hua also became worried, "Ah Yu, why don't you change the date and get married as soon as possible? Young Master Meng was already in the spotlight because of his looks, and now with his title, even more people will want to pursue him."
"It's alright, Sister Cui Hua. We had already agreed on the date. If we suddenly change it, others might think there's a problem. Besides, even if we get married, those who covet him will still make moves."
Polygamy was common in these times, and even after their marriage, those without power and influence would still try to place concubines for him. Those with power would directly propose to separate him from her and remarry.
Shu Yu said, "Don't worry; everything will be fine."
Cui Hua thought about it and realized it made sense, so she didn't say much. Instead, she turned to ask about the girl behind Shu Yu, "Who is this young lady?"
Shu Yu turned around, and Meng Han was indeed visiting the Lu family for the first time, so she wasn't familiar with their residence. After entering the gate, she seemed a bit reserved and cautious, carefully observing her surroundings while following behind Shu Yu.
Shu Yu found it amusing and pulled her over, saying, "This is Ah Yun's cousin. She's here to visit us this time."
Meng Han quickly smiled and greeted Cui Hua and Lan Hua. In no time, she became at ease and got along well with the Lu family members.
