Ah Ning blinked her eyes, feeling deeply moved by her elder sister's concern for her.
Shu Yu smiled at her and continued speaking to Tan Cheng, "What I mean is, the person who poisoned Young master Tan persisted for two years, and they were close to succeeding until our old master intervened. This person must hold a deep grudge, and after failing to harm Young Master Tan, they might shift their focus to our old master and my younger sister."
Both Tan Cheng and Madam Tan's expressions changed, realizing the truth in her words.
Shu Yu looked troubled and continued, "Perhaps those thugs yesterday weren't targeting my sister after all, and it was just my overthinking. However, this incident did serve as a wake-up call for me. I believe it's essential to find the culprit who poisoned Young Master Tan as soon as possible."
"Yes," Madam Tan agreed, her face filled with animosity, echoing Shu Yu's sentiment.
"If we find that despicable person, I will tear them into pieces. They harmed my son so miserably and still want to escape punishment?" Madam Tan vowed, her anger evident.
Shu Yu nodded in agreement and added, "I think the same way. If we don't find the culprit soon, even if Young Master Tan is saved this time, there might be another attempt in the future."
Madam Tan felt anxious, as this was her biggest concern.
However...
"We have investigated everyone inside and outside the mansion and found one of the kitchen staff as the lead suspect. We were about to interrogate him, but he died after a few questions, cutting off the lead completely," Madam Tan sighed with frustration.
They had been tirelessly trying to find the culprit to no avail. Shu Yu fell silent for a moment before suggesting, "In my opinion, the person who poisoned Young Master Tan must have had some conflict with him. Two years ago, did Young Master Tan have any disputes with anyone to the extent that they would resort to poisoning him?"
Tan Cheng shook his head, as they had already thought of this aspect.
Once his health improved, and his mind cleared, he tried to recall if he had any conflicts with someone two years ago that would lead to such a malicious attack. However, he was known for his gentle nature, often acting as a peacemaker in disputes between friends. Moreover, with their family's good financial standing, he rarely had any enmities.
He even doubted if he had inadvertently blocked someone's path, but after careful consideration, he couldn't find any reasonable explanation.
Seeing no progress in this area, Shu Yu changed her focus, "Since Young Master Tan doesn't have any enemies, then... two years ago, did he witness something he shouldn't have, which prompted someone to resort to murder and silence him?"
Tan Cheng's head snapped up, "Silence?"
Madam Tan was equally shocked. While they had been considering the existence of enemies, they had never thought that someone entirely unrelated might attempt such a vicious act.
But if that were the case, the scope of potential suspects would be too broad.
"Two years ago, did I see something I shouldn't have? I don't think so. At that time, I was busy preparing for the examination, focusing solely on studying. I wished to write a few more articles to ensure my success," Tan Cheng replied.
Did he see anything back then? No, he didn't.
Furrowing his brows, Tan Cheng tried hard to recall.
However, due to his still-weak condition, his head began to throb painfully when he was under pressure.
Doctor Zhao quickly pressed his hand and gently massaged the acupoints on the back of his head. "It's enough; don't think too much, or you'll end up vomiting blood."
Madam Tan was frightened and urged Tan Cheng to calm down.
