Shu Yu pondered, wondering why the culprit who poisoned Young master Tan was only found among the kitchen staff when he had already died. She couldn't help but question who would want to harm Young Master Tan and why.
As the poison he was afflicted with was similar to the one used in the Xiao family, she couldn't help but wonder if it was a coincidence or if it was somehow related to the Second Prince.
Deciding to get to the bottom of it, Shu Yu thought of meeting Young Master Tan when she sent Ah Ning back to the Tan family. It might be crucial, especially if it had anything to do with the Second Prince.
With Ah Ning already asleep, Shu Yu tucked her in before closing her eyes.
The next morning, Shu Yu took Ah Ning to the Tan family.
As a familiar face in the Tan family, Ah Ning didn't need to announce herself at the gate, and they were allowed to enter directly.
Master Tan wasn't at home, but when Madam Tan heard that Shu Yu had come, she hurriedly welcomed them.
Feeling joyous, Madam Tan seemed much better than last time, and even the wrinkles on her forehead had smoothed out significantly.
She was delighted to see Shu Yu and said, "I heard from Ah Ning that your fiance, Young Master Meng, has passed the prefectural examination. Congratulations to Miss Lu Xiangjun."
Madam Tan's spirits were high, and she replied, "Thank you for your kind words, but Young Master Tan is in good health, and I must also congratulate you on your good fortune after experiencing hardships."
They exchanged pleasantries as they slowly made their way to where Young Master Tan lived.
Doctor Zhao was already there. Every morning, he would come to diagnose and treat Young Master Tan, adjusting his medicine according to his condition. If there were no major issues, Doctor Zhao would leave to attend to his own affairs and return in the evening.
When Shu Yu last saw Young Master Tan, he was thin and weak, with little breaths in and out, barely able to move or sit up. Even opening his eyes was a struggle.
Though he was still thin, the aura of death had dissipated.
Madam Tan introduced Shu Yu to him, saying, "This is the Lu Xiangjun that I mentioned to you, this is Ah Cheng"
Tan Cheng immediately stood up and performed a salute. "So it's Lu Xiangjun, pardon my rudeness. I heard from Mother that if it weren't for Lu Xiangjun vouching for doctor Zhao, Father and Mother might have misunderstood him, and I might have missed the opportunity for salvation. I would like to express my gratitude to Lu Xiangjun for her assistance."
Tan Cheng's words revealed his appreciation for Shu Yu's help in vindicating doctor Zhao, but she politely responded, "Young master Tan, there's no need for such formalities. It was our old master who saved you in the first place. I only wished to clear his name."
After exchanging pleasantries, Shu Yu naturally took a seat nearby.
Tan Cheng seemed somewhat puzzled by her presence. While it was understandable for Lu Xiangjun to come to the courtyard, it seemed like she intended to stay for a while? As a man, he found it strange for an unmarried woman to visit a man's residence, especially since she wasn't a doctor. He looked at Madam Tan for clarification.
Madam Tan quickly explained, "Lu Xiangjun has something to ask you."
Tan Cheng nodded understandingly and said, "Lu Xiangjun, please feel free to ask anything, and I will answer honestly."
Shu Yu pursed her lips and began, "Well, I wanted to know if you have any suspicions about the person who poisoned you."
Tan Cheng was taken aback.
Shu Yu continued, "To be honest, yesterday while my younger sister was out, she encountered a few ruffians. Although those ruffians seemed to be targeting Doctor Xie, I can't help but feel uneasy, fearing that they might have been after my sister."
