Shu Yu was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and asked, "Ah Ning, why are you here?"
Ah Ning recounted the incident with the thugs from the gambling house and how Xia Yan and Meng Han came to their rescue.
Upon hearing this, Shu Yu couldn't help but furrow her eyebrows. "Are you hurt?"
"No, Second Sister. I can protect myself now."
When Ah Ning was at Renxin Medical Hall, she had told Shu Yu that she not only wanted to learn medicine but also martial arts. However, with the return of Doctor Zhao, she didn't get the opportunity to receive further training from the system. Nonetheless, Ah Ning didn't stop practicing her basic strength exercises and horse stance.
While she was still not skilled in fighting, Ah Ning was agile and had learned some life-saving techniques from Doctor Zhao. Even if she went out alone, she was not easy to mess with.
Shu Yu affectionately ruffled Ah Ning's hair and said, "I know you're capable, but don't overestimate yourself. If you encounter someone you can't handle, just run away."
"I understand." Ah Ning held her hand and asked, "Second Sister, was your trip smooth?"
"Yes, it was." Shu Yu sat down at the table, accepted the tea handed to her by the little girl, and asked about Ah Ning's situation. "What about you? Are you still at the Tan family with old Doctor Zhao?"
Ah Ning nodded. "Young Master Tan is no longer in serious danger, but his body is severely weakened. It will take at least a few months of recuperation for him to improve. Master Tan and Madam Tan don't trust others and have paid my Master a high sum to stay and help with his recovery."
The mention of "high sum" caught Shu Yu's attention.
Coughing lightly, she said, "It seems like they spent quite a lot of money."
"Yes, Master said that Eldest Sister will give birth soon, and it will cost a lot of money to raise a child. He needs to earn more." Ah Ning lowered her voice, "Master hopes Eldest Sister will have a daughter, so he can find a dozen maidservants to serve her, and she won't have to do anything. If it's a son, it won't be so easy to raise him."
Shu Yu: "..." She suddenly wished for her sister to have a nephew. If it's a niece, she feared that Doctor Zhao would spoil her beyond measure.
Shu Yu also wanted to ask if they had found the person who poisoned Young Master Tan. After all, the poison was the same as the one used on the Xiao Shi.
However, with Meng Han present, she refrained from asking too much.
The sisters turned their attention to their family matters, and Shu Yu learned that Ding Yuehua was pregnant.
Doctor Zhao and Ah Ning had recently visited Jiangyuan County, where Shu You and Zhao Xi were residing. Shu You was pregnant, and despite Zhao Xi's presence, Doctor Zhao was still concerned and wanted to check on her himself.
Ah Ning had met Ding Yuehua during her previous visit to Jiangyuan County. Ding Yuehua and Da Niu got married around the same time, but while Da Niu's child was born several months ago, Ding Yuehua had yet to conceive even after a year and a half.
Ding Yuehua was anxious and had specifically sought Ah Ning's advice, asking Zhao Xi to check if there were any problems with their bodies. Zhao Xi confirmed that both of them were fine and advised them to relax and not stress about it, as it would happen in due time.
Shu Yu thought that a year and a half was not very long, especially considering that they had just separated from their family last year. Third Young Master Fan had to establish his own household, which would undoubtedly keep him busy. How could he have the time and energy to focus on having children?
