With Meng Han standing in front of the two girls, Xia Yan felt relieved and swiftly dealt with the aggressors, knocking them down to the ground.
Realizing that they couldn't do anything, the aggressors angrily warned, "You wait and see."
Ignoring their threats, they quickly got up and hurriedly fled from the alley.
After they had left, Meng Han let out a sigh of relief and then looked at Xia Yan, teasingly saying, "Didn't we agree not to intervene? Why did you suddenly turn into a hero to rescue these maidens?"
Xia Yan glanced at her, then walked past her to check on the two girls behind.
Meng Han, feeling contemptuous, thought he lacked self-control, unable to resist helping the girls.
However, Xia Yan knelt down and asked the younger girl, "Ah Ning, are you alright?"
Meng Han was stunned, wondering if Xia Yan knew this person.
Ah Ning shook her head cutely and smiled, "I'm fine, I'm not afraid at all. These people were just trying to scare us."
Relieved to see that she wasn't injured, Xia Yan smiled, "That's good." He knew that Ah Ning was a brave girl, so seeing her unharmed put him at ease.
Before he could stand up, Meng Han had already rushed over, curiously asking, "Xia Yan, do you know this little girl? Who is she?"
Xia Yan sighed helplessly, "This is Ah Ning, Miss Lu's younger sister."
"Sister Shu Yu's younger sister?" Meng Han's eyes lit up, "You're Sister Shu Yu's sister?! Ah Ning, you're so cute. I'm Meng Han, I'm Meng Yunzheng's sister. From now on, we're good sisters."
"Really?" Ah Ning was surprised, as she had never heard about her before.
Meng Han was about to explain her identity when Xia Yan interrupted, "Let's not talk here. Miss, we should leave. Those people might come back with reinforcements. Let's find a safe place to chat, okay?"
Meng Han felt a bit regretful but agreed with Xia Yan's suggestion, nodding her head.
With a sigh of relief, Xia Yan turned to the girl next to Ah Ning.
The girl thanked them with caution, and Ah Ning introduced her, "This is Sister Xie. She's the female doctor from Renxin Medical Hall."
Renxin Medical Hall was the one where Ah Ning had curiously visited for the first time, and unfortunately, it was the place where she encountered the thugs.
Xie, the female doctor, had taken a liking to Ah Ning and wanted to take her as an apprentice. But when she learned that Ah Ning already had a mentor, she reluctantly gave up but gave her the address of the medical hall.
Ah Ning hadn't visited until now.
However, with their frequent visits to the capital due to Doctor Zhao's treatment, the medical hall became their go-to place because it was close to the Tan family and well-stocked with herbs. Over time, Ah Ning and Doctor Xie became close.
Ah Ning liked Doctor Xie a lot and often went to the medical hall to help and learn from her. Occasionally, she even diagnosed and treated patients, gaining a lot of practical experience.
Doctor Xie also learned about many difficult and rare diseases from Ah Ning, which she had never encountered before. She didn't expect that in just one year, Ah Ning, who could only bandage wounds and assist others before, would make such remarkable progress.
Her medical skills had reached a level where she could discuss and exchange knowledge, which was quite astonishing for Doctor Xie.
