Xiao Shi had improved her appetite somewhat, but she still couldn't eat much. After finishing her meal, she sighed.
"Before, when I was poisoned and at the Xiao family's residence, I couldn't eat anything. I had to force it down. After a few months, not only did my body become weak, but my stomach also hasn't been feeling well. It hurts occasionally."
She forced a smile, "I don't know if I can recover from this, but at least my life is saved. That period was so dangerous, and I still shudder when I think about it."
Shu Yu tried to comfort her, "Don't worry too much. Now that we are far away from the capital, you can take good care of yourself here. We have doctor Zhao here, and he is skilled in making nourishing meals. I'll have him write down some recipes for you to follow, and whenever you need money or medicine, just ask master Xiang; he's wealthy."
Xiao Shi chuckled, "On this matter, my husband has never been stingy. He packed the carriage with plenty of tonics and medicinal herbs. Originally, my husband wanted me to take it slow and rest well along the way, but I was too anxious and couldn't find peace on the road."
Shu Yu knew she had been frightened these past few months. Who could have expected that what she once thought was her strongest support and warmest harbor would turn into a death sentence, without even giving her a chance to defend herself?
"I don't know why, but when I see you, my heart suddenly calms down. Shu Yu, isn't that magical?"
Shu Yu thought, "Magical my foot!" How could she not know that she had become some kind of soothing medicine?
After chatting with Xiao Shi for a while, Shu Yu took her leave.
As she reached the entrance, she couldn't help but look at the maids and guards standing outside.
Perhaps she stared a bit too long, and Xiao Shi noticed. She could somewhat guess what Shu Yu was thinking. "Do you want to ask about the whereabouts of Gu Mama and He Wen?"
Shu Yu opened her mouth but didn't say anything. She did want to ask, but she was afraid that something might have happened to them. Mentioning it again would only touch on Xiao Shi's painful memories, so she held back.
Fortunately, Xiao Shi smiled and said, "They are alright."
Gu Mama and He Wen were both elderly servants who had been by Xiao Shi's side for a long time. Their bond with Xiao Shi was deep.
At the beginning, the Xiao family only wanted to control Xiao Shi and hadn't pushed her to the point of being completely at odds with them. They were afraid that killing these two would make Xiao Shi lose control since she cared for them deeply. After all, Xiao Shi's temper had not been good in the past, and she had even clashed with a princess over a maid when Xiao Fei was favored.
Moreover, when Xiao Shi saw the second prince, it was just her alone. Gu Mama and He Wen were not with her at that time, and they were taken away directly without any contact.
Now, these two were assigned to work at a manor. Of course, they were given more arduous and tiring tasks, and there were people watching over them.
But their lives were spared, and there would be a chance for them to reunite in the future.
Shu Yu nodded upon hearing this, "That's good."
After letting Xiao Shi rest, Shu Yu went to the front yard. She checked the situation and recorded the harvest of sunflowers and their yield for the day. She had to go to the Dong'an city tomorrow and wouldn't be here, so she made some arrangements in advance.
By the time she came out of the workshop, it was almost dark.
After a busy day, Shu Yu had a good night's sleep. The next morning, she set off for the Dong'an city with Xiao Shi, who had packed her things.
