Faking Xiao Shi's death was not overly complicated.
She was originally poisoned with a slow-acting poison, and all they had to do was increase the dosage.
Since the Xiao family was related to the Third Prince, both the Second Prince and the Third Prince were wary of them. Naturally, they had placed their people in both households.
Xiao Shi's household also had someone loyal to the emperor.
Initially, the emperor didn't plan to use them, but now, to save Xiao Shi, he had no choice but to activate them.
Xiao Shi had always suspected that the slow-acting poison was added to the tea she drank daily because she always felt nauseous during mealtime. If the poison was added to her food, it wouldn't be effective.
As tea was often served, Xiao Shi seized an opportunity and accidentally spilled some tea on a handkerchief. She then gave the handkerchief to the person loyal to the emperor, who was embedded in her household, to send to the imperial physician for examination.
As expected, the imperial physician found traces of poison on the handkerchief.
After determining the location of the poisoning, Xiang Weinan's people began preparations.
First, they investigated who prepared the tea for Xiao Shi daily and who administered the poison.
Once they discovered the servant responsible, they replaced the poison in her possession.
When the servant brought the tea to Xiao Shi, Xiao Shi, in a bad mood due to her recent irritation, drank more than half of the tea in one go.
Of course, the tea she drank at that moment was poison-free, but after she finished, the undercover agent would take advantage of others not paying attention and swap the teapot with another pot containing a large dose of slow-acting poison.
Soon after, Xiao Shi's body showed signs of poisoning, and she passed away.
The Xiao family immediately determined the cause of her death, identifying the poisoned pot of tea, which was exceptionally toxic that day.
When questioned, the servant naturally denied adding more poison than usual, claiming to have followed the regular dosage. However, another servant stepped forward to testify, saying that Xiao Shi had been in a bad mood lately, often finding fault with this servant, and even punished her yesterday. Many people witnessed it.
The servant was suspected of increasing the dosage to take revenge on Xiao Shi.
However, regardless of the reason, Xiao Shi had died, catching the Xiao family off guard.
Now, Xiao Shi was not just a daughter of the Xiao family; she was also Xiang Weinan's wife. Xiang Weinan would come and visit his sick father-in-law every so often to fulfill his filial duties.
She was Xiang's wife, and this matter had to be explained to the Xiang family.
If Xiao Shi had slowly succumbed to the poison and died, they could have claimed that she was seriously ill, but her sudden death would certainly raise suspicion. Xiang Weinan saw her a few days ago, and she was in good spirits at that time.
This matter couldn't be hidden. The Xiao family sent someone to inform Xiang Weinan, classifying the incident as a personal grudge.
Although Xiang Weinan was dissatisfied with the result of the poisoning case, he was determined to hold the Xiao family accountable.
The Xiao family didn't want to escalate the situation and explained the matter to Xiang Weinan politely. Besides, Xiang Weinan didn't like Xiao Shi anyway. With her death, it was a chance for him to remarry.
The Xiao family offered enough benefits, and Xiang Weinan decided not to pursue the matter any further.
As for Xiao Shi, she had taken the medicine beforehand, putting herself in a state of false death until she was taken back to the Xiang family.
"Actually, the plan to fake her death was made possible thanks to the medicine doctor Zhao provided."
Shu Yu suddenly recalled that before Xiang Weinan left, he didn't send anything else, but he did send quite a few medicine bottles.
So, it turns out there's a medicine that can put someone into a state of false death.
