Shu Yu nodded. "Yes, didn't you know?"
"How would I know?"
"Isn't there..." Shu Yu's voice suddenly stopped. She realized that although Xiang Wunan knew she was the disciple of the Temple Master, he and Xiao Shi had a strained relationship.
She remembered the first time she saw Xiao Shi, and how Xiang Wunan's smiling face immediately turned serious.
Given their relationship, Xiang Wunan wouldn't have confided in Xiao Shi or discussed such matters with her.
Shu Yu quickly changed the topic, "Then, what about the Xiao Family? I thought since Dongqing Temple's Temple Master is so renowned, the Xiao Family would be concerned about her. It's been quite some time since the Temple Master took a disciple, so they should be aware. I assumed they told you about it."
Xiao Shi shook her head, not thinking much of it. "Looking back, the Xiao Family rarely talked to me about court matters. I only know that many people are concerned about the Temple Master's whereabouts, and the Xiao Family probably sent people to look for her."
However, the Temple Master's whereabouts were too elusive to be found. Some people used to wait outside Dongqing Temple, but even after a year or two, they didn't see anyone return. There were even rumors that the Temple Master had come back, but no one saw her, causing many people to give up.
Although Xiao Shi didn't know much, she still found it incredibly unbelievable.
"The Temple Master actually took a disciple? And you're her disciple!" She had heard that the Temple Master had never accepted disciples and had a cold and distant demeanor towards anyone and anything.
Xiao Shi was curious, "Did she read your face... like a fortune teller?"
Shu Yu's lips twitched. "No, if I told you I've only seen my master once, you probably wouldn't believe it."
That's right, Shu Yu had only met the Temple Master once during the time she was recovering in Dongqing Temple.
After that, she hadn't seen her again.
Xiao Shi was taken aback, "Really?"
"Why wouldn't it be? I haven't seen her for over two years now. I don't even know what she looks like anymore."
Xiao Shi fell silent for a moment, unsure of what to say.
She had never heard of a master and disciple who had only met once.
Finally, Xiao Shi had an epiphany, "No wonder!"
"What do you mean by 'no wonder'?"
"No wonder those people never looked for you or took you seriously." Then, she realized that only the new emperor was interested in Shu Yu.
That's why in the end, the second and third princes, who had been at odds with each other, didn't ascend the throne. Instead, the fifth prince, who truly had vision and insight, became the emperor.
Xiao Shi raised her head, "You're right. After such a long time, the second and third princes should have already known about the Temple Master taking a disciple. However, they probably realized that you and the Temple Master weren't close. Otherwise, with the Temple Master's ability, you wouldn't have been exiled."
To be honest, if the Temple Master cared about her disciple, it would have been an easy task for her to protect Shu Yu.
Even the previous emperor valued the Temple Master highly. Shu Yu was just an adopted daughter of the Shu family. If the Temple Master really wanted to protect her, it wouldn't have been difficult at all.
Shu Yu touched her nose, wondering how to explain. Should she say that it was all because of the plot in a book, which was so powerful that even the Temple Master couldn't change it?
Or should she say that she herself wasn't sure what the Temple Master was thinking?
