Shu Yu quickly regained her composure and smiled at Daoist Sister Zheng. "Sister Zheng, I came here with something in mind and I was hoping you could help."
Xiao Shi was taken aback as she observed the interaction between Shu Yu and... Daoist Sister Zheng.
It turned out they knew each other.
Daoist Sister Zheng's expression remained gentle. "Feel free to speak, Miss."
"This is my friend. She's facing some difficulties and currently has no place to stay. Staying at my place would be inconvenient, so I wanted to ask if she could stay temporarily in the temple. I hope Sister Zheng can help us out."
Daoist Sister Zheng furrowed her brows, causing Xiao Shi to pull Shu Yu's sleeve lightly. She knew that even though she and the Daoist Sister were acquainted, Dongqing Temple was a big place, and it wasn't up to the Daoist Sister alone to decide.
Daoist Sister Zheng seemed troubled. "Miss, this might not be appropriate. Dongqing Temple has always refrained from getting involved in secular matters. A temporary stay for one or two days is possible, but anything longer might not be convenient."
Daoist Sister Zheng didn't know the specifics of Xiao Shi's difficulties, but she could tell that whatever made Shu Yu hesitant to take her friend into her own home was definitely a significant matter.
Xiao Shi had prepared herself for this and wasn't surprised by Daoist Sister Zheng's response. Though disappointed, she didn't want to trouble others.
However, Shu Yu had different plans. She took a few steps forward, grabbed Daoist Sister Zheng's arm under Xiao Shi's puzzled gaze, and said, "But Sister Zheng, you said you would help if I needed anything."
Daoist Sister Zheng felt helpless. "But I didn't say I could guarantee anything."
"That's not right. This matter is not that difficult to handle. You mentioned earlier that visitors could only stay for one or two days. However, I stayed here for a couple of months before, so there is a precedent, right?"
Xiao Shi suddenly realized the situation. Shu Yu had previously stayed at Dongqing Temple for a while, which explained her familiarity and friendly relationship with the Daoist Sister.
Daoist Sister Zheng became even more helpless. "Miss, it's different. You're the disciple of the Temple Master, so it's natural for you to stay as long as you want."
Xiao Shi lifted her head suddenly, her eyes fixed on Daoist Sister Zheng. What did the Daoist Sister say just now? "Disciple of the Temple Master"?
Shu Yu didn't notice Xiao Shi's expression and continued negotiating with Daoist Sister Zheng. "That's not right. Now, there's a friend of the disciple of the Temple Master staying here, and they have a close relationship with the Temple Master. This should be negotiable, right?"
Daoist Sister Zheng couldn't refute her. Every time she spoke with Shu Yu, she felt like she was getting entangled in a never-ending conversation.
Finally, Daoist Sister Zheng raised her hands in resignation. "Miss, I can't make this decision on my own."
"It's alright. Let's talk to Sister Qiu and come to an agreement. If both of you agree, then it's settled. If not, I'll try to persuade them."
Daoist Sister Zheng couldn't argue anymore.
Well, for this troublesome matter, she'd let Sister Qiu decide.
Daoist Sister Zheng turned to ask a young temple attendant to inform Sister Qiu. She knew that Sister Qiu would probably agree.
Although Sister Qiu was talkative, stern-faced, and demanding with others, she tended to be more accommodating when dealing with Shu Yu.
As Daoist Sister Zheng explained matters to the two women, she led them inside the temple, served them tea, and asked them to wait while she sorted things out.
Xiao Shi saw Daoist Sister Zheng instructing the temple attendants and couldn't help but lean close to Shu Yu, whispering with astonishment, "You, you're the disciple of the Temple Master?"
