When Shu Yu heard that Xiang Weinan wanted to deal with the Xiao family, she remembered what the Xiao Shi had said to her the day before they left.
Political struggles could turn father against son and brother against brother, let alone a couple who were only reluctantly together.
Xiang Weinan had chosen to stand on the Emperor's side from the beginning. Even if it wasn't for himself, he had to do it for the sake of his family. Who knew what would happen between him and the Xiao Shi in the future?
However, those matters were too distant for her to worry about right now. Shu Yu shook her head to clear her mind and said, "Congratulations on your promotion, Lord Xiang. However, with you leaving, I don't know if it'll be convenient to handle some matters now."
No, she had to think about what else she needed Xiang Weinan's help with before he left so that she could get it done quickly.
Xiang Weinan himself didn't know who the new County Magistrate would be, as he hadn't received any information yet.
"Just relying on your abilities, is there anything you can't handle? Besides, there's also Meng Yunzheng here. Who can be your match?" Xiang Weinan said.
Meng Yunzheng replied, "You really think highly of us."
Xiang Weinan snorted. Did he really think highly of them? He had experienced it firsthand.
"But don't worry. Although I don't know who's coming, I guess it will be someone conservative and easy to get along with."
Under the previous County Magistrate's governance, Jiangyuan County was poor and chaotic, and it was only after Xiang Weinan arrived that it gradually improved. He was young and had his own ideas, so he quickly initiated radical reforms.
Within a year and a half, Jiangyuan County had already improved significantly.
However, some reform measures required a long time to take effect. If the new County Magistrate was also someone with a radical personality, and if their approaches and ideas were completely different from his, Jiangyuan County would undoubtedly fall back into chaos.
The Emperor didn't send him here just to overthrow the current County Magistrate and the Dong'an Prefecture or to gain more experience. He was genuinely concerned about the development of this place.
So it was likely that the successor would be a moderate and conservative official who would continue Xiang Weinan's reforms.
Shu Yu thought about it. When the person arrived, they would find out.
After discussing matters, seeing that Meng Yunzheng and Xiang Weinan still had things to talk about, she didn't linger and left.
She needed to think about how to meet the large order from the capital.
Shu Yu left the county government and didn't go home. Instead, she headed straight to the workshop.
Lately, Da Niu had been staying at the oil mill. He had multiple roles now, but there weren't many people Shu Yu could rely on at the moment. The newly arrived workers were still being observed, and she wasn't sure if they could handle things on their own, so she had to burden Da Niu more.
When she arrived, Da Niu was coming out of the mill, covered in sweat.
"Ah Yu, why did you come at this hour? It's already afternoon."
"I came to talk to you about something."
"What is it?" Da Niu wiped his sweat and walked with her to her office.
They had set up separate offices there. Occasionally, they discussed things there, mainly to avoid distractions.
Once they were seated, Ying Xi poured hot water for them to make tea.
Da Niu sighed, "Ah Yu, tell me, is there something you need my help with?"
"Help isn't necessary, but I came here to share some good news with you."
"Good news?"
"The capital sent a letter. Our sunflower oil caught the attention of the palace, and they want to procure a portion of it for use in the palace."
