On the first day of the lunar new year, the children were the most excited. They woke up early, put on new clothes, and started visiting relatives to receive red envelopes.
Since everyone had earned decent incomes last year, even stingy people like Li's and Liang's families gave larger red envelopes than in previous years.
Not to mention the grandma Lu and others, who were even more generous.
Shu Yu was still considered a junior and had not yet married, so she not only didn't need to give red envelopes, but also received red envelopes from her parents and the grandma Lu.
Meng Yunzheng secretly gave her one too, and it was quite substantial.
Seeing that Xiao Songle was always sticking with her to play, she thought, should she also give a red envelope to her fiancé's child?
So Shu Yu gave a red envelope to Xiao Songle and was caught by Quan Quan, who had been playing with him.
How could the children understand these complicated relationships? All Quan Quan knew was that his sister gave red envelopes to his good friends but not to him, and he looked at her with eyes filled with grievance.
Unable to resist his accusing gaze, Shu Yu also gave him one.
After giving it to him, the others couldn't be partial either. After all, the amount of money in the red envelope didn't need to be large; it was just to celebrate the festive occasion.
Shu Yu ended up giving red envelopes to all her younger siblings.
The children happily went out to play with the thick red envelopes in their hands and firecrackers in their pockets, making the day lively and vibrant.
After the New Year, everyone was busy visiting relatives. The second family had cut ties with the Ruan family long ago, so they naturally wouldn't visit them.
Most of the relatives of the Lu family were in Shishi Village. Shu Yu and Lu Erbai accompanied grandma Lu to visit the village, and they managed to finish visiting all the relatives in just one day.
As for grandma Lu's maternal family, there were no longer many people left. grandma Lu still had a younger sister, but she had married years ago and settled with her husband in another town. It was said to be quite far away.
grandma Lu didn't mention the specific location, and they had lost contact long ago.
After visiting relatives, Shu Yu's shop reopened, but the workshop had not resumed operations yet.
Perhaps due to many wealthy families having sunflower seeds during the New Year, the shop experienced a sudden surge in business after reopening, and all the stock was sold out.
Sunflower oil was also selling very well.
Shu Yu felt that this was not enough; selling only two types of products was too few. She needed to think of a way to add more varieties.
However, before she could come up with a solution, Hu Li came to find her after the twentieth day of the first month.
Shu Yu followed Hu Li to the county government and found that Meng Yunzheng was also present. He and Xiang Weinan were having a conversation in the study.
As soon as Shu Yu entered, the two turned their heads and smiled at her simultaneously, making her feel inexplicable. "What's this... good news?"
"There is indeed good news, but for you, it might be a bit of a headache." Meng Yunzheng stood up, pulled her to sit beside him, poured her a cup of tea, and slowly spoke, "A letter came from the capital."
Shu Yu's eyes lit up, "What did the letter say?"
"Your sunflower seeds are a hit. The Emperor served them to guests at the palace banquet on the thirtieth day of the year. Many people inquired about it afterward. Later, they found out that several high-ranking officials have connections with you and came to visit you. The largest fruit and nut shop in the capital has caught wind of the opportunity and will probably come to Jiangyuan County soon. But the problem is... your stock is running low."
As soon as Shu Yu heard this, she started to worry indeed.
However, Meng Yunzheng hadn't finished speaking yet, "Of course, what's even hotter is your sunflower oil."
