On the thirtieth day of the lunar new year, the shop closed its doors for two days before reopening.
This year's New Year celebration at the Lu family was particularly lively. Everyone gathered together to have the New Year's Eve dinner at Shu Yu's house.
Not only the third family members but also Lu Sixing's family were present.
Although Yuan Shanchuan's parents and siblings were still alive, they had severed ties with him long ago.
Knowing that Shu Yu had become the village lord and Yuan Shanchuan was gaining more recognition from the authorities, Yuan's family had considered repairing their relationship. However, the village heads of Daxu Village, Chen, and Ruan were different. village head Chen had foresight and was reliable. He had promised to look after Yuan Shanchuan's parents, and even when they acted difficult and unruly, village head Chen managed to handle the situation well.
Yuan Shanchuan knew that he could live a stable life, thanks to village head Chen.
Therefore, he returned the favor by informing village head Chen of any news from the officialdom. Not to mention other things, Yuan Shanchuan informed village head Chen when Shu Yu's workshop was hiring workers.
More than ten people from Daxu Village came for "interviews," and Shu Yu actually selected three hardworking and suitable villagers to work in the workshop.
With a person like village head Chen in Daxu Village, the village would only get better and better.
So, on New Year's Eve, Yuan Shanchuan only sent a New Year's gift to village head Chen but didn't go back to his own family.
Meng Yunzheng came with Xiao Songle, and Shu You came with her newlywed husband, Zhao Xi, and old doctor.
Cui Hua's family of three also came. According to custom, they should have returned to Lai's family for the New Year. However, she preferred the atmosphere at the Lu family's place. After discussing it with Lai Jinhai, they decided to stay in the county town to celebrate the New Year before going back.
Lai's family naturally wasn't pleased, but Lai Jinhai had been working with Lu Erbai and earned a lot of money this year. They had bought many things for the New Year and even brought back an expensive bottle of sunflower oil and two catties of sunflower seeds.
Lai's parents weren't petty and also hoped that Cui Hua would interact more with her family. They persuaded themselves that it was rare for everyone in the Lu family to reunite, so they let them stay this time. Then they happily took the new year clothes made by Cui Hua and left for home.
On New Year's Eve, the Lu family set up three tables for the New Year's Eve dinner, not including the family's servants.
Everyone was joyous, and the children were especially lively.
Zhao Xi had bought fireworks and firecrackers for the twins last year, and this year, there were even more children. He and Meng Yunzheng almost carried a large basket of fireworks and firecrackers back.
The children went crazy with excitement. The twins had played with fireworks last year, so they were experienced and proudly introduced various types of fireworks to others.
The sight of the fireworks shooting up into the sky made the children scream with joy as they jumped around.
Even the adults couldn't help but feel restless and secretly played with a few fireworks.
After all, when they were young, their families were poor, and they didn't have the spare money or ability to buy these things.
grandma Lu looked at the whole family, took two cups of wine happily, leaned against Shu Yu, and her eyes turned slightly red. "Ah Yu, I'm really happy today. Everyone is here, and you are here too. It's so nice."
Shu Yu hugged her, "In the future, you can be this happy every day."
"Yes." grandma Lu nodded heavily, but perhaps due to the effects of the alcohol, she felt drowsy soon after.
Shu Yu had Hua Xian help her back to rest, and the others stayed behind for the New Year's Eve.
The children couldn't stay awake and fell asleep after playing. The remaining adults enjoyed the rare peace and warmth of the night.
