Shu Yu didn't hold any grudges against Xiao Shi, especially since Xiao Shi came to apologize. She naturally didn't harbor any resentment.
"I accept your apology," Shu Yu said.
Xiao Shi's expression immediately relaxed, "Thank you."
She seemed like she wanted to say something else but stopped and just smiled, "Now that everything's out in the open, I feel relieved. Well then, I'll take my leave now, farewell."
Shu Yu nodded slightly and accompanied her and Gu Mama to the front gate of the Lu family's residence.
She only turned back after their carriage disappeared into the distance.
Madam Lu approached and peeked, "Are they gone? I was going to invite her to have dinner."
"They've left," Shu Yu said, hooking her arm with grandma Lu, "What delicious dishes did you make? I could smell the aroma from afar."
"I said so, I went to buy vegetables, and when I came back, you were gone," Old Madam tapped Shu Yu's nose, "In a little while, the county magistrate's wife will come over, and I'll be left alone to stare at her. There's nothing to talk about."
Shu Yu laughed and walked inside with her, telling her about meeting with Meng Yunzheng and mentioning that Meng Pei was going to escort a shipment to the capital this year during the Lunar New Year celebrations.
grandma Lu became anxious when she heard the sudden news, "Why so sudden? No, I have to prepare something for him. It's not good for him to return to his hometown empty-handed."
Shu Yu shook her head with a smile and let the old lady busy herself.
That night, Meng Pei came to bid farewell to the Lu family after finishing his work at the escort agency.
grandma Lu prepared some things for him on the spot.
Early the next morning, Meng Pei set off.
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng saw him off at the city gate along with several other escorts from the agency. Coincidentally, Xiao Shi arrived at the city gate with her servants.
This time, it was Xiang Weinan who came to see someone off, and the two parties met at the city gate.
Xiang Weinan invited Meng Pei and the other escorts to help with the escort, even though Xiao Shi had her own guards.
Meng Pei readily agreed, and after a brief conversation at the city gate, they set off.
Sitting in the carriage, Xiao Shi watched the couple standing not far away through the window, her eyes filled with envy.
Gu Mama sighed, "Miss, don't keep looking."
"What if I had said yesterday that I wanted to be friends with Lu Xiangjun? Would she have agreed?" Xiu asked.
Gu Mama smiled, "Of course she would have agreed. Miss, you are a lady of the Xiao family and the wife of the county magistrate. Many young ladies from prestigious families in the capital would be lining up to get close to you. Lu Xiangjun..."
"I don't think she would," Xiao Shi interrupted Gu Mama, shaking her head. "She is different from the other young ladies I've met in the capital and the ladies of the Xiao family's courtyard. It's as if she never cares about the status quo. She's young, yet she has been to the exile land, become Lu Xiangjun, and traveled alone to the capital. It seems she doesn't need to rely on anyone to get what she wants."
Other people, once they achieved the status of Xiangjun, would use this identity to make connections and show off, just like that Miss Zhang, who considered herself a noble lady in the small Dong'an prefecture.
But what about Lu Shu Yu? After becoming Xiangjun, she returned to quietly farm and run her workshop, rolling up her sleeves to harvest crops, and spending days and nights at the small workshop without even going home.
Seeing this side of Lu Shu Yu, Xiao Shi found herself feeling envious.
