The entire Meng family, except for Meng Xiaoshu, probably wouldn't be willing to welcome them.
Meng Yunzheng knew everyone here, so he naturally intended to stay in Jiangyuan County for the New Year.
More importantly, after the New Year, in February, he would return to the Meng family to participate in the county-level imperial examination.
He had requested to return to his hometown during the audience in the Golden Luang Hall, and the late emperor had transferred his household registration back to the Meng family. County-level, prefectural-level, and imperial-level examinations all had to be taken at the place of one's household registration.
He couldn't keep going back and forth between the Meng family and Jiangyuan County until the county-level examination, right? Wouldn't that be troublesome?
Such back-and-forth travel would be too bothersome.
Upon hearing this, Shu Yu couldn't help but smile and said, "Don't worry, our family's New Year's Eve dinner will be lively. You and Xiao Song Le can come together."
This year, there would definitely be many people from the Lu family. The old lady was still alive, so the whole family of the third branch would naturally gather together for the New Year's Eve dinner.
Last year, they spent the New Year in exile, so this year was the real family reunion.
Meng Yunzheng chuckled, "Sure, we'll crash your feast on New Year's Eve and stay until the fifteenth day of the first lunar month."
"Always welcome."
Since they had already agreed that Meng Pei would bring sunflower seeds and sunflower oil to the capital, Shu Yu had no intention of going to the post station.
Instead, she headed straight to the nearby escort agency.
Meng Pei left and then returned to the escort agency, surprising the people inside.
Shu Yu explained to Meng Pei that she had divided the items into several portions. Sending the rest to other places was fine, but the portion for Hou Shi had to be delivered separately.
Shu Yu had never been to the Wan family's residence, so she was not familiar with the Wan family's situation. She didn't know who was in charge now or Hou Shi's current status in the household.
Sending things directly to her might cause trouble.
So she asked Meng Pei to first assess the situation, and if it was not suitable, he could deliver it to the Yao family and ask Madam Yao to help.
Although Madam Yao had never met Hou Shi, she had heard of her.
Meng Pei took note of everything and, after receiving Shu Yu's instructions, left the escort agency.
Meng Yunzheng took a small bag of sunflower seeds and a small jar of oil to the county government office. Shu Yu looked at his stingy appearance and couldn't help but say, "Even if you're giving it to Lord Xiang for a taste test, you can't give so little, right?"
"These things are only available in your home, and they're not plentiful either. Besides, they're expensive. It's only natural to be a little conservative in their usage. If he can have some to eat, that's already good enough. How can he be greedy?"
Shu Yu had originally intended to accompany him to the county government office, but seeing his attitude, she immediately gave up on the idea.
"It's getting late, and I told my grandmother before leaving that I would come back for dinner as soon as possible. Should I head back now?"
Meng Yunzheng shook his head. What was this? Were husband and wife not supposed to be like two birds that shared the same forest, facing difficulties together?
But Shu Yu pretended not to notice his expression and decisively got on the carriage and went straight home.
Little did she know that while she didn't go to the county government office, someone from there came to her home.
The visitor was Xiao Shi. Since their last meeting, Shu Yu hadn't seen her again.
She had thought they wouldn't have much interaction, but who would have thought that Xiao Shi would come knocking on her door again.
However, Xiao Shi's demeanor was completely different from the last time when she arrived this time.
She must have been waiting in the main hall for quite a while, and grandma Lu secretly came over to tell Shu Yu that Xiao Shi had already had two cups of tea and there might be something important.
So as soon as Shu Yu entered the main hall, Grandma Lu led everyone else to the kitchen to prepare the food, leaving them alone to talk.
Sitting opposite to each other, Shu Yu asked, "Madam, did you come here for something?"
