Chapter 1290: Meng Pei's Plan
Shu Yu was taken aback. Even during the New Year, there were still escorts to be carried out.
She thought about the New Year goods she wanted to send to the capital and couldn't help but touch her nose.
Meng Yunzheng explained, "Because it's almost New Year, most of the escorts in the escort agency have families and don't want to be away from them. There aren't many available escorts. Originally, my father had just gone to the escort agency, and this kind of task shouldn't have fallen to him. But he volunteered and decided to make the trip."
Shu Yu was puzzled, "Why?"
Meng Yunzheng wasn't someone without family, and this was their first New Year together after reuniting. Without the surveillance of people like Gong Qiu, it should have been a joyful reunion.
So why did he choose to leave now?
Meng Yunzheng sighed, "My younger uncle sent several letters asking my father to come back home for the New Year. They haven't seen each other for so many years, and the last time they parted was in a hurry. He wants my father to take me back and worship our ancestors together during the New Year, to have a family reunion."
What Meng Yunzheng didn't say was that his younger uncle's letters were almost filled with complaints and tears.
In fact, when they went back to the Meng family tomb last time, Meng Yunzheng's younger uncle tried to dissuade them, saying that they should just stay at home for the New Year since there were only a few months left anyway.
Meng Yunzheng declined, using the excuse of going to the Lu family to propose marriage. Since it was Meng Yunzheng's marriage, which had already been arranged, Meng Yunzheng's younger uncle couldn't object. However, when seeing them off, he repeatedly reminded them to come back for the New Year.
Meng Pei and his younger brother had a very good relationship. When his parents passed away, Meng Yunzheng's younger uncle was still quite young.
During that time, Meng Pei had to take over the escort agency and deal with the relatives and escorts coveting the Meng family. He was busy and stretched thin. Despite this, he still took some time to educate his younger brother.
Meng Pei's younger brother had followed Meng Pei and watched him closely all these years. He admired and respected his elder brother. When he heard that his elder brother had "died" over ten years ago, he even fell seriously ill.
Now that the brothers were reunited, despite Meng Pei's younger brother around thirty-five years old, the tone of his letters was still as whiny as a child's.
The urgent letters from his younger brother annoyed Meng Pei, but they also reminded him.
The issue of ancestral worship during the New Year.
They not only needed to worship their ancestors, but Meng Pei also had to go see Song Xin.
Reuniting with Meng Pei was indeed rare, but reuniting with Song Xin was even rarer.
He and his son had secretly met a few times during these ten years, but there had been no contact with Song Xin. The first New Year after avenging his wife, of course, he had to spend it with his wife.
After all, a son was never more important than a wife.
So, Meng Pei made a decision. He would hurry to the capital with the escort and deliver the goods. After that, he would rush back to the Meng family's home and have a New Year's Eve dinner with Song Xin.
Shu Yu listened and was speechless, "Aren't you going back?"
"My younger uncle asked me to go back to the Meng family. But you know, I'm not really a child of the Meng family. Although the Meng family doesn't know, we know it in our hearts. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to accompany them to worship our ancestors during the New Year."
As for his mother, for the past ten years, he had spent every New Year with her. This time, he didn't want to disturb his parents with his worries.
Shu Yu, "..."
Well, that's true.
"Moreover, I'm different from my father. My father has a good relationship and deep feelings with my younger uncle, but I hardly have any contact with them. Even if I go back, no one will be familiar with me, and it would be quite awkward."
Meng Yunzheng didn't like the New Year's tradition of visiting relatives and friends.
