Shu Yu said, "I mentioned before when hiring that I expect everyone to come to work fresh and clean every day. I have checked, and you all have trimmed your nails and dressed neatly, looking energetic. I am very satisfied."
Upon hearing this, the people couldn't help feeling happy.
After all, the wages provided by the employer were not low, and they were afraid of making any mistakes. So, they had to get up early in the morning to wash their hair and take a bath before they could leave.
"I have said before that our workshop deals with food. When it comes to something we eat, cleanliness is of the utmost importance. If it's dirty, not only can we not sell it to customers, but we ourselves would also find it unappealing. I will provide each of you with a set of clothes and aprons. I expect everyone to tie their hair with a cloth when they work. I hope there won't be any hair or similar things in the food we prepare."
The clothes were custom-made by Shu Yu from Yiren Pavilion. Aunt Xiang and others worked hard for several days to finish them.
However, the clothes were all of the same style and not too complicated, so they were made quickly.
Shu Yu intended to give each person two sets so they could change and wash them regularly. For now, they could only receive one set, while the other set was still being made and would be delivered later.
After Shu Yu finished speaking, Da Niu stepped forward with Ying Xi, carrying two baskets.
Seeing this, everyone exchanged puzzled looks. They were actually receiving clothes?
They were somewhat excited, especially for those whose families were not well-off and had only one set of clothes without patches to wear to work. Getting a new set of clothes was like a godsend.
Moreover, Shu Yu had given them cotton-padded clothes.
Although the cotton-padded clothes were not thick, compared to the clothes they stuffed with willow fibers, it was like a treasure. They were reluctant to wear them.
When they received the clothes, they were even hesitant to touch them.
Getting clothes before starting work, would the treatment be bad in the future? Just for these clothes, they would work hard and not let the employer down.
Therefore, they all agreed with Shu Yu's words, nodding vigorously.
After distributing the clothes, Shu Yu also gave each person a work card, which was actually a small wooden card with their names written on it to be attached to their clothes.
After handing out everything, Shu Yu continued, "Today is the first day of work. We will work half a day and rest in the afternoon. After having lunch, you can come and choose rooms. For now, four people will share one room. If someone performs well, they can move to a two-person room or even a single room in the future."
"Yes."
Everyone eagerly responded and then ran inside to change into their work uniforms. Energetically, they followed Shu Yu to the workshop on the right.
Over forty people were divided into two groups—one group was responsible for processing seeds, and the other group was responsible for oil pressing.
Shu Yu first took some of them to the courtyard where the sunflower seeds were processed. She had already tasted the plain sunflower seeds earlier, but they were a bit bland. Now she wanted to try adding some five-spice seasoning.
The sunflower seeds had been soaked in seasoning earlier in the morning, and now it was the perfect time to cook them. Shu Yu had the seeds poured into a pot and continued to boil them with the seasoning and salt for about fifteen minutes.
The pot with the seasoning soon filled the air with a rich aroma.
Everyone present couldn't help but sniff, "It smells so good."
Shu Yu had a villager named Luo Chun keep an eye on it. He had worked in a peanut processing workshop for half a year before returning to Shishi village after the workshop closed down.
Thus, he could be considered as a semi-"skilled worker."
