However, what Li Shi didn't anticipate was that although she hoped Yu Fenglin would be filial and give her good things, she found it difficult to accept them because of his fierce appearance. Every time he brought something to her, she felt as if he was about to hit her.
After a few encounters, Li Shi became hesitant to accept his gifts.
This is just a later development in the story.
In any case, Liang Shi's words struck a chord with Li Shi, and the marriage between Lan Hua and Yu Fenglin was finally settled.
grandma Lu was overjoyed and informed Master Yu. After considering it together, they decided to formally introduce the two.
Lan Hua and Yu Fenglin already had feelings for each other, so there was no need for further persuasion.
Within a few days, their engagement was settled, and they began to choose a wedding date.
Unlike Shu Yu, who had to wait three years, they decided to get married the following year in March.
Shu Yu thought that the current emperor would pass away this winter, so it wouldn't be long before it happened. According to the laws of the Great Su Dynasty, there would be a six-month mourning period for the emperor after his passing, during which weddings were prohibited.
Therefore, she suggested choosing a date in the second half of the year.
grandma Lu agreed, thinking that the second half of the year would be better, especially considering Lan Hua's young age.
As for Lan Hua's matter, the elders were busy with it, and Shu Yu only listened to some information when she returned home. She hadn't even seen what Yu Fenglin looked like.
Currently, she was busy with recruiting workers for the newly built workshop. She had already sent out the message that they were hiring at the new workshop.
Many people from Shishi Village and surrounding villages, as well as several villages near the workshop, came, and there were almost three hundred people crowded in the open space in front of the workshop.
Shu Yu was a bit overwhelmed. Did they even hear the conditions she mentioned?
Seeing so many people standing together, she couldn't help but feel a headache.
Among them were even people as old as her grandmother. They all came.
Shu Yu had to stand up and reiterate, "As I said before, those working here must live here. You will have a few days off each month, but long-term absenteeism is not allowed. Those who have land and fields at home will need to help during busy farming seasons, right? I don't want people like that. If anyone has such an issue, there's no need to waste everyone's time."
The crowd began to murmur, and someone who refused to give up said, "But those students at the academy have time off during busy farming seasons, why can't we?"
Shu Yu smiled, "Those students pay tuition to the academy, but I'm paying wages here. If you are willing to compensate me for the losses caused by your absence during busy farming seasons and pay me money for taking time off, then I won't mind granting you that time off."
The crowd fell silent.
Shu Yu's words carried weight, and most people in Shishi Village knew her temperament. After emphasizing again and again, no one dared to cause trouble anymore. However, many felt regretful inside.
In the end, half of the people couldn't meet Shu Yu's requirements. After eliminating those who were lazy, picky, or had a high opinion of themselves, as well as those who were in poor health or couldn't leave their families, they finally settled on forty-two workers.
Thirteen of them were from Shishi Village.
With the workforce sorted, the commencement date had yet to be decided.
However, at this time, news arrived from the capital that the emperor had passed away.
