Shu Yu furrowed her brows and asked, "Why does Aunt reject the match?"
Liang Shi chimed in, "Aunt isn't satisfied with the distant nephew introduced by the Yu family? He is, after all, related to the Yu family."
grandma Lu waved her hand, "Speak softer; you're hurting my ears."
She then turned to Shu Yu and explained, "Li Shi disapproves of Yu Fenglin because he's an orphan without parents. She also looks down on him for having only one blacksmith shop and says he's not good-looking. She really is too picky."
Liang Shi rolled her eyes, "Li Shi has such high standards now? She won't even consider the nephew of Master Yu, who owns a blacksmith shop. Has she forgotten her own situation? They only have a few mu of land; does she really think she can marry into a wealthy family?"
grandma Lu was indeed surprised. Liang Shi had hit the nail on the head. She realized that Li Shi had collected information on several wealthy young men and was being selective. Otherwise, Lan Hua's marriage would have been settled long ago.
grandma Lu liked Yu Fenglin, but Li Shi thought she had poor taste, rejecting those wealthy suitors and choosing the worst one. Was she crazy?
grandma Lu was so angry she couldn't even speak. She thought Li Shi had gone mad and failed to consider their own circumstances. What made her think those rich families would want her? They were interested in Shu Yu!
Liang Shi listened and grinned, "Mother, let me handle this. I'll go talk to sister-in-law."
"Are you capable of that?" grandma Lu doubted.
Liang Shi patted her chest, "Don't worry; I'll handle it. I'll go find sister-in-law tomorrow morning."
Though grandma Lu was skeptical, she didn't want to see Li Shi. But Lan Hua was her granddaughter, and she couldn't let her be harmed by Li Shi's recklessness.
Liang Shi went to try her luck and actually managed to persuade Li Shi. She went to the blacksmith shop to meet Yu Fenglin the next day before approaching Li Shi.
Li Shi had been suspicious as Lan Hua had been taking meals to Yu Fenglin for the past few days, so she kept a close eye on her.
When Lan Hua went to work at Yiren Pavilion, Li Shi followed.
Liang Shi found Li Shi at Yiren Pavilion and told her that having no parents made Yu Fenglin a good match because whatever wealth he had would be theirs.
If Lan Hua married into that family, she wouldn't have to serve her in-laws, and she could live a comfortable life. Moreover, in the future, the only people Yu Fenglin would have to take care of would be themselves, essentially becoming a son-in-law.
On the other hand, those wealthy young men came from prominent families. Although they had money, they also had many responsibilities. Most of them were the second or third sons, either not favored by their families or spoiled. If Lan Hua married one of them, she would have to serve a large family and wouldn't have a say in their own home.
Yu Fenglin was different; he had his own shop, and they could hire a maid to help with housework. They could lead a fulfilling life with just the two of them. Furthermore, this match was arranged by Master Yu himself, and he had considerable wealth, with properties and shops in the county and town. He would surely take good care of Yu Fenglin, making their life together comfortable.
Although Li Shi didn't like Liang Shi, she couldn't help but feel her words struck a chord. There were two points that appealed to her: First, her daughter would be free from serving her in-laws and could have a say in her own home; and second, her son-in-law would only have to take care of the two of them in the future.
Considering her options, she realized she still cared about Lan Hua and agreed to the match.
