Xiao Shi pinched the handkerchief in her hand and looked up at the girl who appeared even thinner than the last time they met. She suddenly smiled and said, "I'm here to bid farewell."
Shu Yu's hand holding the teacup paused, and she looked at Xiao Shi in surprise, "Farewell? Is Lord Xiang returning to the capital?"
No, that's not right. If Lord Xiang were returning to the capital, Meng Yunzheng wouldn't have kept it a secret from her.
Then, what could it be?
Sure enough, in the next moment, Xiao Shi shook her head, "No, I am the one going back to the capital. I'm going back alone."
Shu Yu calculated the time and figured that Xiao Shi had only been here for a few months. She obviously came for Xiang Weinan, so why was she leaving so suddenly? What happened?
Xiao Shi explained, "My family sent me a letter, asking me to return for the New Year. I still haven't adapted to life in Jiangyuan County. Last year, I was thousands of miles away, and my heart was never at ease. Since my family wants me to return to the capital, I thought I might as well go back."
Shu Yu was taken aback. When Xiao Shi mentioned her family, it definitely wasn't the Xiang family.
The only other possibility was the Xiao family.
Now that a new emperor had ascended the throne, it wasn't the third prince who succeeded. As the biggest competitor before, the third prince held considerable power, and the new emperor would definitely want to deal with him.
The third prince's situation could be imagined, and the Xiao family's situation wouldn't be any better.
Shu Yu couldn't discuss these matters with Xiao Shi, so after she said she was leaving, Shu Yu could only say, "Then... I wish you a safe journey."
"Thank you. I don't know when we'll meet again."
Shu Yu politely replied, "We will definitely have the chance to meet again. Master Xiang is a good friend of my fiancรฉ. If he gets promoted and returns to the capital in the future, we can also go to the capital and meet up."
Xiao Shi hesitated for a moment and then whispered with a bitter smile, "Master Xiang? By then, I don't even know if I'll still be his wife."
Shu Yu had sharp senses and even though Xiao Shi spoke softly, she still heard it clearly.
Xiao Shi's words carried a lot of information.
However, her consideration seemed reasonable. Xiao Shi's marriage to Xiang Weinan was a result of her scheming. If something happened to the Xiao family, and she lost her backing, their marriage might very well come to an end.
Shu Yu knew a bit about Xiang Weinan and didn't think he was the kind of person to abandon his wife and child for such reasons.
But she didn't know the Xiang family well, and no one could predict what the future held. There were many conflicting interests involved, and who knew how things would turn out?
Shu Yu pretended not to hear and lowered her head, taking another sip of tea.
Fortunately, Xiao Shi quickly changed the topic, "Actually, the main reason I came here this time, besides bidding farewell, is to apologize to you."
This was her main purpose, otherwise, why would she come to bid farewell to someone like Lu Shuyu whom she wasn't very familiar with?
"Last time, I was deceived by someone and mistakenly thought there was something between you and Lord Xiang, so I was eager to introduce you to someone suitable, which caused you trouble. I'm really sorry."
"Deceived by someone?"
Xiao Shi nodded, "In a large family, once there are many concubines, there will always be various conspiracies and tricks. But I've already dealt with that person, and she won't be able to cause any trouble. I also explained this matter clearly to my husband. In fact, I should have come to apologize to you earlier, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Since I'm leaving for the capital tomorrow, if I don't say it now, I'm afraid I won't have a chance in the future."
