Grandma Lu thought there might be something between Lan Hua and the young master Yu, and she was pleased about it. As far as she could see, Yu Fenglin, the young man from the Yu family, was quite good.
Since Lan Hua wasn't around, the old lady didn't stay long and planned to come back the next day to ask Lan Hua for her opinion.
If Lan Hua thought it was feasible, the old lady would inform her eldest son, and the two parties would formally meet.
When the old lady returned, Shu Yu noticed she was in a good mood, indicating that things were probably progressing smoothly with Lan Hua.
Shu Yu didn't inquire much about it. Now that her eldest sister had already married, and Sunflower would mature in about twenty days, she needed to quickly gather enough labor.
The workshop had been built, and most of the dormitories were completed. These days, her father was busy making oil pressing tools.
Therefore, early the next day, Shu Yu set off to the village.
The workshop was built about two miles southwest of the village. Shu Yu parked the carriage in the village and walked there with Ying Xi.
The workshop was quite large, and when construction started, it attracted a lot of curiosity from villagers in the nearby villages. As there wasn't much work to do in the fields recently, many people had free time and often came to the workshop, chatting and discussing.
They had heard that the land had been bought by a famous person from county town, but they didn't know what the workshop was for.
When they asked the workers, even the workers themselves didn't know.
The more mysterious it seemed, the more curious they became.
On the day Shu Yu arrived, there were even more people gathered around the workshop than a few days before.
She found it strange and asked Lu Erbai, "Dad, what's going on outside?"
Lu Erbai looked up, wiped the sweat off his forehead, looked in the direction of the crowd, and smiled, "Oh, nothing much. They just heard that our workshop is about to be completed, so they come over from time to time to see and inquire about it."
Shu Yu chuckled; these people knew how to seize the opportunity.
However, she didn't expect that not only the onlookers were seizing the opportunity, even the workers building the workshop were eager.
After Shu Yu had been there for a while, someone from Shishi Village, who had a good relationship with Lu Erbai, was pushed forward by the crowd and asked her, "Lord Lu, when will our workshop be hiring people? How about my husband and my younger brother? They are both hardworking."
Shu Yu was taken aback for a moment and smiled, "We are indeed preparing to hire people these days." She glanced at the crowd outside, who were working while eavesdropping, and raised her voice, "If anyone from your family is interested, they can come and give it a try."
The crowd rejoiced, but before they could cheer, Shu Yu continued, "However, I must make it clear beforehand. This time, I plan to hire about thirty to forty people, and the number is limited. So, we will definitely be looking for diligent and hardworking individuals, and those who can read and write will be even better. We will sign a contract, and if anyone violates the rules of the contract, there will be consequences. I know that many of you uncles have a good relationship with my father, and you should probably know my personality. I won't show any special favoritism just because someone is a fellow villager or has a relative connection to my family. I will follow the principles of fairness, justice, and openness in the hiring process."
The crowd looked at each other, and some people felt that this was the right way to do it, especially those workers who had no relationship with the Lu family. They felt relieved as they now had a chance to compete fairly.
