A relative-in-law of old lady Ruan, who was about the same age as Ruan Shi, offered to deliver a message for her to the county since she was heading there anyway.
However, upon reaching the county, the relative-in-law didn't dare to approach the Lu family directly; instead, she wanted to talk to Ruan Shi. Unfortunately, Ruan Shi was not available at the time, so the woman went to see Ah Xiang.
Ah Xiang and Fu Xiangdi were also from Ruan's village, but they had always kept their distance from the villagers. When they were taken away by Shu Yu, nobody in the village knew initially.
Later, when it was discovered, some people commented behind their backs that they had been lucky, while others tried to befriend them.
However, Fu Xiangdi had a strong personality, and she remembered very well how the villagers treated her and her mother. Anyone who came to see them was sarcastically driven away by Fu Xiangdi.
This time, the relative-in-law from Ruan's family only came to pass on a message. She sighed to Ah Xiang, saying how difficult the Ruan family's life was now. She mentioned that the man from the Yu family was being cruel and ruthless, not allowing old lady Ruan to leave the village, and that the Ruan family was being bullied to the point where everyone couldn't bear to watch.
After the relative-in-law left, Ah Xiang hesitated about whether she should tell Shu Yu or not. However, Shu Yu was too busy, and Ah Xiang couldn't find the right moment. Eventually, she decided to inform Ruan Shi.
But when Ruan Shi heard about it, she exploded in anger. "She deserves it! The people from Ruan's village couldn't bear to watch? What's there to feel sorry for? When my daughter was sold, where were they then? When she tried to harm my children again, where were they? I cut ties with them long ago, and even if they die, I won't shed a single tear or burn a single piece of paper!!"
Ruan Shi not only refused to intervene in Ruan's family affairs, but she also told Lu Erbai and her other children not to get involved.
Ruan Shi had always been a gentle and meek person. In the past, she wouldn't say much even when mistreated at her parents' home.
But old lady Ruan had crossed her bottom line, and not taking up an axe and confronting her like Shu Yu was already her limit.
"They still want the Lu family to meddle in their affairs? How wishful thinking."
Ruan Shi was so angry that she couldn't eat properly for several days. The wounds from the past that had gradually healed seemed to have been reopened. When she thought about the hardships Ah Yu had endured and the near departure of the twins from her side, she wished they would suffer and endure more.
The old lady found it rare that Ruan Shi showed some backbone. She didn't expect her second daughter-in-law to really confront the Ruan family head-on with knives and guns, but just having such thoughts was already impressive.
Shu Yu knew that Lord Yu was deliberately trying to be on good terms with her, which was why he intervened to stop the Ruan family from causing trouble for the Lu family.
Although he publicly claimed that Ruan's old lady had deceived the Yu family, he was holding a grudge and didn't want the Ruan family to have it easy.
However, Shu Yu understood in her heart that even if lord Yu didn't say it, she couldn't pretend not to know.
That's why, during the last housewarming banquet, she invited lord Yu. But at that time, she was preoccupied with Meng Yunzheng's departure and didn't talk to lord Yu.
This time, for her elder sister's wedding, she also extended an invitation to him.
And she thanked him sincerely.
Lord Yu smiled, "Lu Xiangjun, there's no need to be so polite. Everyone has a few troublesome relatives; it's unavoidable. You and I can be considered friends, just a small favor."
"No matter what, I still want to thank you, Master Yu."
"The Ruan family and I also have some past grievances. I don't deserve your thanks like this. If you really want to thank me, there is something I have in mind. If it gets done, then it won't be too late to thank me again."
