After arriving at the western part of the city, Shu Yu slowed down her horse's pace. She had made an arrangement with Meng Yunzheng to head directly to the Miao Mansion after returning from Dongqing Temple. Regardless of the measures Meng Yunzheng might take to prevent the Black Market members from contacting Mr. Miao, someone would wait a street away from the mansion to inform her of the situation.
So, when Shu Yu arrived near the Miao Mansion, she dismounted and leisurely walked there.
Sure enough, after a while, a beggar hesitantly approached her and asked in a low voice, "Are you Miss Lu?"
Shu Yu stopped in her tracks and nodded, "I am Lu Shu Yu."
The beggar visibly relaxed and said, "Young Master Meng asked me to wait here for you and inform you that he's waiting for you on the second floor, Room No. 3, of the Rong Guang Restaurant ahead."
Shu Yu gave him a few copper coins, saying, "Thank you."
She handed the reins of her horse to the restaurant staff and headed straight to the second floor.
When she reached Room No. 3, Shu Yu took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
Inside the room, both Meng Yunzheng and Mr. Miao fell silent for a moment upon hearing the knock. Mr. Miao signaled his followers behind him, and one of them went to open the door.
The follower hesitated for a moment upon seeing the person at the door and whispered, "Miss, you've got the wrong room."
Shu Yu hadn't spoken yet when Meng Yunzheng walked up and said, "She is here to find me."
He then brought Shu Yu inside the room.
Mr. Miao squinted his eyes as he assessed the person in front of him. The name of Lu Shu Yu was even more familiar to him than Meng Yunzheng's.
She used to be the third young lady of the Governor's family. After her family's downfall and exile, she miraculously became the illustrious Lu Xiangjun upon her return to her hometown.
The madam of the Fragrant House, Lui Ru, had spoken with deep emotion about Lu Xiangjun.
Master Miao stood up, "Lu Xiangjun?"
Shu Yu smiled, "Master Miao, I've heard so much about you."
Master Miao looked at her and then at Meng Yunzheng. Suddenly, he burst into laughter, "Haha, who would have thought that the famous young master Meng of the capital and the renowned Lu Xiangjun of Dong'an Mansion would become engaged. Both of you are truly talented and beautiful."
Master Miao had heard about Shu Yu's betrothal, but he never expected that the other party would be Meng Yunzheng.
Shu Yu took a seat beside Meng Yunzheng and said, "I'll take that as a compliment from Mr. Miao. What were you two discussing just now?"
"Just idle chatter," Meng Yunzheng replied.
He squeezed her hand and knew that Master Miao was no longer a problem. Shu Yu's expression told him that her visit to Dongqing Temple had been very successful.
Master Miao narrowed his eyes, "Indeed, just idle chatter. Meng Gongzi has been pulling me around for quite some time. I suppose it's to wait for Lu Xiangjun arrival. Do you two have something to discuss with me? I'm curious about the purpose of this meeting scheduled through Dongqing Temple."
Master Miao clearly knew that Meng Yunzheng was stalling for time, but he could see that the other party had no ill intentions. Moreover, he was intrigued by his experiences, which kept him from becoming impatient and leaving abruptly.
Now, it seemed that they were about to get down to business.
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng exchanged glances. "We apologize for taking up Mr. Miao's time. Allow me to reintroduce myself. I am Lu Shu Yu, the Master of Dongqing Temple. He is my teacher."
