Meng Yunzheng believed that he had been low-key all these years and had never been involved with the black market.
The black market could sell the estate and the mountain to anyone, including the Qin Lou Chu Guan, but not him.
Shu Yu pondered, "Do you know who the backer of the black market is?"
"I really don't know," he replied, and even the Fifth Prince and the others were unaware.
The black market had been around for about two or three decades. Nobody knew who the backer was, but everyone was sure that this person's status was definitely not low.
Jiangyuan County's black market was relatively small and insignificant, dealing mostly with goods.
However, there were three major black markets in the entire Da Su Dynasty, hidden very discreetly.
These black markets were not just involved in trading inanimate objects; they dealt with all kinds of shady items and people.
Among these people were individuals from various professions and even government officials.
The black market had intricate connections with the court, making it extremely difficult to investigate the backer behind it. Any attempt was met with numerous obstacles and blockades. As a result, Meng Yunzheng still didn't know who this person was.
However, it seemed that this person might have some connection with Meng Yunzheng. Otherwise, why would he refuse to negotiate the price and directly reject him?
Meng Yunzheng sneered, "Not selling to me probably means they have something to hide. The more it's like this, the more I want to obtain this estate."
Shu Yu's eyes lit up, "I feel the same way."
Shu Yu didn't want troublesome neighbors, while Meng Yunzheng saw this place as a potential future academy.
Their goals aligned, and if this backer truly had a connection to Meng Yunzheng, it was better to find out sooner rather than later to avoid potential pitfalls.
"Since Master Guo won't sell to us, let's find an intermediary who can buy it from him, and then we can buy it from them," Meng Yunzheng suggested.
"But we just went to see Master Guo. If a stranger suddenly goes to buy the estate now, he might guess our intentions. To be safe, Master Guo will probably sell the estate to Qin Lou Chu Guan," Shu Yu sighed.
"So, the only option we have is to approach the owner of Qin Lou Chu Guan?" Shu Yu asked with some frustration.
"If you don't want to go, you can stay at home. I'll go," Meng Yunzheng replied with a smile.
"Well... let's go together. It would be better to have some backup," Shu Yu suggested.
Deciding to go before it was too late, they set out directly for the Dong'anPrefecture.
However, they felt an indistinct gaze on them after they left the mountain peak.
It seemed that Master Guo didn't trust them and had sent someone to keep an eye on them.
The more this happened, the more curious Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu became.
With someone watching them, they couldn't directly head to the capital. Instead, they had to return to the estate and inform Da Niu before taking a carriage back to Jiangyuan County.
Arriving at the county, Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng changed into male clothing and disguised themselves as middle-aged men. They abandoned the carriage and rode horses, traveling lightly and quickly heading towards the Dong'an Prefecture.
By the time they reached the Prefecture gates, it was already getting late. The streets were lit with lanterns, even though some shops were still open.
Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu were even more conspicuous, not to mention the lively Qin Lou Chu Guan that only came alive at night.
