Shu Yu was about to discuss this matter with Meng Yunzheng when she heard him ask, "I heard that the black market is up for sale?"
"Did Xiang Weinan tell you?" Shu Yu asked.
Meng Yunzheng's expression turned serious. "No, I overheard it when I went to the capital. It seems that the buyer is someone who runs Qinlou Chu Pavilion in the capital. From what I gathered, they haven't settled on the price yet."
But it won't take long, at most another two or three days.
Shu Yu felt a headache coming on and shared the information Xiang Weinan had told her with Meng Yunzheng.
"If they really get their hands on it, we'll be the most affected," she said.
Meng Yunzheng smiled and said, "So, what do you think if I buy the black market property?"
Shu Yu turned her head abruptly and looked at him. "You? Why would you buy that?"
"Don't you remember what I want to do in the future?"
Of course, Shu Yu hadn't forgotten. In the future, he wanted to pass the imperial examination, then open his own academy, become a schoolmaster, and teach students.
She suddenly became excited and looked towards the nearby black market.
Yes, the black market already had buildings, and it was a quiet place. If they made some changes, wouldn't it be the perfect academy?
Why hadn't she thought of this before?
"Do you really want to buy it? But isn't it too early now? It will take you several years to pass the imperial examination, and during this time, won't it be wasted here? Besides, the price is indeed not cheap," Shu Yu said.
Meng Yunzheng chuckled, "If we were to build a new academy from scratch, it wouldn't necessarily be cheaper. Moreover, it's only two months until the New Year. In February next year, I can participate in the county examination, followed by the provincial examination and the imperial examination. Once I become a successful candidate, I can start planning the academy and admitting students."
At the beginning, they wouldn't need to enroll too many students. As he progressed step by step, more students would come to them, and it was always better to start small and gradually expand.
Seeing that he had a well-thought-out plan, Shu Yu felt relieved.
If his academy were in the black market, it would also be convenient for her.
"Alright, then let's buy it," she said, feeling relieved and then remembering something. "Do you have the money with you?"
She didn't have much money left.
Meng Yunzheng replied, "Yes. Before I left the capital, the Fifth Prince gave me fifty thousand taels of silver."
Shu Yu was shocked, "So much?"
"It's sort of a reward for my help these years," he explained. "He said since I'm preparing for the imperial examination and won't have time to earn money, he gave it to me directly. Well... it was quite a generous sum."
Fifty thousand taels of silver was not an easy sum to come by, even for the Fifth Prince. Moreover, he had many subordinates to support, and there were many expenses to consider.
When the Fifth Prince asked casually, he never expected Meng Yunzheng to be so unceremonious and accepted the money without hesitation. After all, he was going to get married, and Shu Yu was capable. He couldn't bear to appear too poor.
The Fifth Prince was almost angered to death when he heard this. Meng Yunzheng was a rare talent, and he was afraid that he wouldn't have enough money?
Regardless, Meng Yunzheng now had the fifty thousand taels in his hands.
Since they had the money, Shu Yu felt reassured. "Then let's not delay. Shall we go and talk about buying that mountain at the black market now?"
"Sure." Once they finalized the deal, he could go back and get the money.
The two of them turned and went back to the estate to tidy up. Then, they brought Ying Xi and Xia Yan along and headed to the mountain together.
However, what they didn't expect was that the other party would flat out refuse them.
